I. The Kings of the North and South
Why take time to study this vision? This vision superimposes additional information upon the image
of Dan.2:31-45, concerning Media-Persia, Greece, Roman and reaches over to the last days. It reveals the
Providence (divine intervention - Dan.4:32-35) and Sovereignty (Supreme authority and power - Psa.24:1) of
the Purpose of God over the kingdoms of this world (Dan.4:32). Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, Rome and its
last day division into ten kings, are only "events" that lead to God's Purpose "in the later days" (Dan.2:28,
42-45).
Note:These kingdoms are NOT the purpose of this vision! As Christians, we are not to become
"entangled with affairs of this life" (2Tim.2:4) by focusing on the kingdoms of this world, because this will
"choke" (Matt.13:22)out understanding the Purpose of God. This will result in you becoming "unfruitful" in
your Christian life.
What are the latter (last) days?
The "latter (or last) days" are the 5th and 6th day of God's Redemptive Week (Review: Phase 3). "These
days" (Acts.3:19-24, Rev.10:7, 1Pet.1:10-12) are days of preparation of the Bride (Eve 2Cor.11:3) of Christ,
the Last Adam (1Cor.15:45).
II. This vision begins with Media-Persia
Daniel was told that there shall stand up yet three kings
in Persia and the fourth shall be far richer than they
all (Dan.11:2 - Compare with the Bear. Dan7:5).
This is history to us! These three kings were Cambyses,
Cyrus' Son (529-522 BC), Pseudo-Smerdis
(522-521BC), and Darius I. Hystaspes (521-485
BC). The fourth king was Xerxes (485-465 BC).
"By his strength through his riches he shall stir
up all against the realm of Grecia.[15] (Greece)"
(Dan. 11:2).
Note: What shall be in the latter days.

and giveth it to whosoever he will" (Dan.4:32).

III. Now the vision turns towards Greece (History to us)
A mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. And
when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds
of heaven; and not to his posterity (Dan 11:3-4). - Compare with Dan.7:6; 8:22 The four wings on the
Leopard and the four notable horns.
A. The mighty king was Alexander the Great(331 BC)
He overran the-known world in less that twelve years and at the age of 33 Alexander suddenly died
("broken" in debauchery[15] i.e. extreme indulgence in sensual pleasures).
B. The four winds are four Generals that stand up.
Cassander took the western part of Greece and Macedonia. Seleucus took the eastern part of Asia,
and Lyshmachus took the northern part of Asia.[15] Ptolemy I Soter (323-285 BC) took the
southern part / Egypt.
C. The king of the south
"The king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and
have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion” (Dan.11:5). This is History: This was Ptolemy
Soter[16],the first one of Alexander's captains to gain control of the Grecian Empire.
Note: What follows (Dan.11:5-34) is a conflict between the king of the North and the king of the
South and the City of Jerusalem is in the "traffic pattern", so-to-speak. It is interesting that the other
three Generals[17] are not mentioned any more.
(Opinion: I think it is because how they reign does not concern the City of Jerusalem)
This period of time is the silent years between the Old and New Testaments while "the children of the
flesh" (natural) waited for those 62 Weeks (434 yrs) for Messiah to come (Dan.9:26).

D. In the end of years
"And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king's daughter of the south shall
come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm;
neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times" (Dan.11:6).
E. Out of a branch of her roots
"But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army,
and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall
prevail: And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their
precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north"
(Dan 11:8).
History: A successor to the Egyptian throne, probably Ptolemy Euergetes, brother of Bernice, avenged
her death, invaded the northern kingdom, took the royal fortress, and prevailed everywhere, carrying
away 4,000 talents of gold, 40,000 talents of silver, and 2,500 idols and idolatrous vessels.

F. So "the king of the south..."
So "the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land" (Dan 11:9).
History: After this, conflict ceased for some years. An ineffectual attempt to retaliate was made by

G. His sons shall be stirred up
But "his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall
certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, even to his
fortress. And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with
him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be
given into his hand. And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he
shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it" (Dan.11:10-12).
H. The king of the north shall return
For "the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and
shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches. And in those times
there shall many stand up against the king of the south:also the robbers of thy people shall exalt
themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall. So the king of the north shall come, and cast up
a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his
chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand" (Dan 11:13-16).
History: After his death, however one of his two sons rose to such power and prowess as to assail
successfully Egypt's fortress Gaza (Dan.11:10). This at last aroused Philopater, the easy-going king of
Egypt (Dan.11:11), to intense indignation. A momentous engagement ensued between him and
Antiochus III. (the great), with signal defeat to the latter. This decided battle was fought near Gaza; but
because of Philopater's love of ease, history says, he failed to follow up his advantage.

I. He that cometh against him shall do according to his own will
But "he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him:
and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed. He shall also set his face
to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he
shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be
for him" (Dan.11:16-18).
History:Antiochus swept on Southward and was welcomed in the Holy Land; but he carried concealed
in his hand the castigation of the Jews. (v.16) The next year he renewed his conquest with increased
preparation and with extra success; but because of Roman interference he changed his warlike purpose
to one of diplomacy, and he offered his young daughter Cleopatra, in marriage to the new Ptolemy, a
mere lad in years. The object of his crafty arrangement was to engage her in intrigue and favor of Syria,
but she failed her father in this policy. (v.17) (W.W. Patterson. Bible Treasures, Daniel & Revelation)
J. He (Antiochus) shall turn his face unto the isles
After "this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf
shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn
upon him. Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and
not be found" (Dan 11:18-20).
History:In revenge Antiochus then turned his conquest against the isles of the Mediterranean Sea and
seized many of them. This, however, brought vigorous resistance from Rome; an able General, Scipio
rebuked the indignity of Antiochus and turned it decisively back upon his impudent head. (v.18)
Antiochus fled from one fortress to another; but he was brought to a halt and put under heavy terms
of tribute. attempting to plunder a Temple he was slain. (v.19) (W.W. Patterson. Bible Treasures, Daniel &

K. A Tax raiser
Then "shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he
shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle (Dan.11:20-21).
History: Seleucus Philopater: the successor to the throne of Syria, inherited the heavy burden of tribute,
and in endeavoring to meet it he sent "an exactor" to confiscate the treasures of the Jewish Temple; but
he was soon mysteriously put out of the way." (W.W. Patterson. Bible Treasures, Daniel & Revelation)
Note: This is a prophetic warning to Jerusalem to be prepared. The focus is on “Jerusalem” not
Alexander’s General’s. The purpose of this vision was to warn the people of God in Jerusalem
what is going to come to pass. Jerusalem was the center, the hub, the chosen [3] place where God
had recorded His name (Deut.12:1-12, 1Chron.17:1-15; 22:1-19, 2Chron.6:6).
"And in his estate shall stand up a vile person"(Dan.11:21).
This is a "pivotal point" because this is History to us. This is happening in the "latter part of their
kingdom."(Greece) (Review: Dan.8:1-13, 19-26)
L. The "vile person"
And "in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the
kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. And with the arms of a
flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.
And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become
strong with a small people.
He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his
fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and
riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time. And he shall stir
up his power and his courage against the king of the south (time frame / Alexanders General) with
a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army;
but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him. Yea, they that feed of the portion of
his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain. And both these
kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for
yet the end shall be at the time appointed. Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his
heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land."
(Dan.11:21-28)
History: His successor was not the lawful heir, as there was a son of
Seleucus Philopator; and another person, a son of Cleopatra and
grandson of Antiochus the Great, who was strongly supported as
claimant. But owing to intrigue and political favor, the younger
brother of Seleucus was accorded the throne, though with honors.
This person was Antiochus Epiphanies (175-164 BC), the "contempt-
ible" as history denominates him. "He was given up to the most
degraded and unnatural passions; he was unscrupulous, cruel, and
of a savage temper; he delighted in the company of the lowest and
basest of men, and was most uncertain in his conduct; but yet he
was deficient neither in courage, nor in cunning ability" (v.21).
By means of allies he swept resistances from before him and very
early dealt his first malignant blow upon God's people by deposing
the High Priest Onias, who was also murdered and succeeded by a
mercenary and heathenizing High Priest, named Jason (v.22), By truce
-breaking measures Antiochus advanced his strength, although with
small resources of his own (v.23), he went on to appropriate peaceable neighboring provinces by
exhibiting an unprecedented generosity in dispensing his easily-gotten riches. This was all to the end of
reaching the strongholds of his Egyptian rival (v.24). In due time Antiochus exerted a great effort to
cover Egypt (v.25). Although the king of the south made a most formidable resistance, yet largely owing
to the treachery of most intimate and trusted associates, he succumbed to Antiochus (v.26). Ptolemy fell
in to the hands of Antiochus, who made politic and lying terms with him, which by divine appointment

M. The King of the North returned to his land
"Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant;
and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land" (Dan 11:28-29).
History: Returning northward with spoils of Egypt, Antiochus turned aside on some pretext and
"assailed Jerusalem; he slew 40,000 of the inhabitants, sold as many more for slaves and plundered the
Temple, carrying off treasures to the value of 1,800 talents"; after which he completed his homeward
journey (v.28).
At the time appointed he(the king of the North) shall return, and come toward the south; but it
shall not be as the former, or as the latter" (Dan 11:29-30).
History: Antiochus later renewed his plans of conquest against Egypt (v.29). Although he prospered,
history tells us, up to the point of arriving without resistance within four miles of the City of Alexandria,
yet disappointment awaited him; for there he was met by the Admiral of a Roman fleet and
was compelled to retire. This was in 168 BC. Antiochus had to bow in disappointment before the
tokens of the approach of a new empire of the world. The FOURTH KINGDOM was as Daniel
had prophesied (Dan.2:40; 7:19; 8:21-23). It was a century yet before the token was fulfilled and
Rome became mistress of the imperial world (v.30).(W.W. Patterson. Bible Treasures, Daniel & Revelation)
IV. The vision now reaches over to the last days (Dan.11:35)
Daniel begins to see into the future. (There is no historical record of these events Dan.11:35-45).
Some "of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white,
(righteous Dan.12:1-4) even to the time of the end:because it is yet for a time appointed. This
space (or gap) is reaching over to the last days ("the time of the end" Review" Phase 3) This is also seen
in prophecies (Dan.2:30-49; 7:1-28; 8:1-; 9:24-27).
A. The historical record separates Dan.11:1-34 from Dan.11:35-45
History confirmsDan.11:1 through Dan.11:34 to be the kingdoms of Media-Persia, Greece and the
beginning stages of the Roman Empire. However, there is no historical record that matches verses
thirty five through forty five (Dan.11:35-45) because these verses are for the "time of the end." (Last
days)
B. The language of Dan.11:1-34 separates itself from Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4
The "king" of Dan.11:28-31is not the "king" of Dan.11:35-45; Rev.12:1-4 because this Vision / Prophecy
divides itself into two different time periods. The first time period is Dan.11:1-35. (Review: Pages 1, 2, 3, 4)
The second time period is Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4.
1. Daniel 11: 1-34 are history to us.
Chapter 11 begins with Media-Persia and Greece's conflict (Dan.11:1-2). Out of this arises the
conflict of the king of the north (Syria) and the king of the south (Egypt). They caused trouble for
the 'Holy City" and "will come against the (people of) Covenant and "shall pollute the sanctuary
of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that
maketh desolate" (Dan.11:31). (Review: Pages 1-4)
This is all History to us because these kingdoms were before the Cross. This was when God's
name was recorded on (or called uponExod.20:24, Lev.1:9, Deut.12:3-11) the sanctuary (made
by hands Acts.7:47; 17:24) and animal sacrifices were offered.
2. Then the prophecy reaches into the future. (Vs.35-45)
"And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them
white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed"(Dan.11:35-45; 12;1-4 /
John.5:29, 1Thes.4:13-18). Then Daniel continues to speak of a "king." However this "king" is
different than the "vile person / king" of Dan.11:21-34 simply because he (the king of Dan.11:35-45)
belongs to the time of the end.
3. The description of this future "king"
Remember Daniel's time frame. He was prophesying during "the first year of Darius the
Mede" (Dan.11:1-2 Media-Persia) and was told "there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia;
and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir
up all against the realm of Grecia” (Greece). The following verses (v.3-34) speak of what was
to happen in the future to Daniel (History to us) between Media-Persia and the beginning on
the Roman Empire (History to us) and the "vile person." This person was Antiochus Epiphanies
(175-164 BC), the "contemptible" as history denominates him. (Review: Page 2) (Note: Future
to Daniel yet History to us)
Daniel saw this "king" (Dan.11:35-45) doing "according to his will, which he "heard, but I understood
not" (Eph.3:5, 1Peter.1:10-12), then said Daniel, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end"
(Dan.12:8-9). This sealed book is opened in Revelation(Rev.5:1-2) and reveals this "king" as
Satan's man, the son of perdition having the same purpose because there is no one else that this
description fits of the Book of Revelation. Note this description:
a. According to his will(Dan.11:36)
This "king" shall receive his power (Rev.13:4; 12:9) from dragon (Devil / Lucifer / serpent / Satan)
"I will exalt my throne above the stars" (Isa.14:13-15, 2Thes.2:4, Rev.13). They are now confirming
and completing what Daniel saw. There is a spirit of antichrist in the world now, (1st. Cent /
1John.4:1-4, 2Thes.2:6) and there will be the antichrist revealed in his time (2Thes.2:).
Note: The absence of a Sanctuary / Temple, daily Sacrifice here
b. Magnify himself above every god (Dan.11:36)
Revelation expands the description of this same "king." This is not just the God that created the
heavens and the earth, this includes every god that man has invented for himself. There will be
no wondering whether there is a God or not, or which one is the correct god. You will take
his mark and be conformed to his image and worship him or be beheaded (Rev.13:1-18).
This includes the atheists!
Note: The measuring stick is the God of the Bible that Lucifer has been trying to destroy
since he fell from God's presence (Isa.14:11-14, Ezek.28:19-). The apostle Paul wrote that this
"king" will "sit [6] in the temple of God, (The Church Acts.7:47; 17:24, Eph.2:20-22, 1Cor.6:19,
1Tim.3:15-16 Note: Isa.14:13 / Psa.48:2; 125:1) shewing himself that he is God" (2Thes.2:4),
God the creator. (Gen.1:1) The very God that man’s wisdom (1Cor.1:19-29) has shut out of
our homes, schools, Churches and Governments, is the very God that this "king" (antichrist /
beast / man of sin / son of perdition) wants to be like.
c. Shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods(Dan.1:36)
Daniel saw this "king"(in the "time of the end") doing "according to his will; and he shall exalt
himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the
God of gods.” (Dan.11:36) Daniel does not identify this king before the Book was sealed up.
(Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-9) Revelation expands the description of this same "king", who opposes and
exalts "himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in
the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God" (2Thes.2:4-5).
d. This future "king" shall prosper
Till the indignation[7] be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. (Dan.11:36)
Revelation expands on what Daniel saw. John writes that "there was given unto him (this
king / antichrist / man of Sin) a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power
(Dan.4:28-35) was given unto him (2Thes.2:6-8) to continue and prosper for forty and two
months (Rev.13:5 / three and a half years - Rev.12:6, 14 / Dan.7:25, Rev.11:2-3).
e. Neither shall he regard the gods of his father's (Dan.11:37)
Revelation expands this. This "king" will take preeminence over gods and replace the God of
Heaven and Earth with himself (2Thes.2:1-4, Rev.13:1-18) whom his father's knew not shall he
honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things (Dan.11:38).
f. Nor the desire of women, nor regard any god (Dan.11:37)
This follows the decline of man to the time of the end. ”For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made,(including
the natural use of men and women) even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are
without excuse (Romans 1:20).
(1) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God,
Neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was
darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Rom.1:20-22, 1Cor.
1:19-29).
(2) And changed the glory of the incorruptible God
They changed it to an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed
beasts, and creeping things (Exod.20), Idolatry. Wherefore God also gave them up to
uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between
themselves: (Rom. 1:23).
(3) ...who changed the truth of God into a lie
"...and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.
Amen" (Rom.1:23-25). i.e. Animal rights have become out of balance.
(4) For this cause God gave them up(2Thes.2:10) unto vile affections:
For even their women did change the natural (Rom.1:20 / Gen.1:28-29) use into that which is
against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in
their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to
retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things
which are not convenient;" (Rom 1:26-28). Think of Sodom / Lot seeing and
hearing unrighteousness vexed their righteous souls (2Peter.2:8, Luke.17:36-37).
g. For he shall magnify himself above all (Dan.11:37)
"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the
beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was
given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him
to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to
blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven" (Rev.13:4-6).
h. In his estate shall he honour the God of forces: (Dan 11:38-41)
"And a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious
stones, (Note: 1Cor.3:10-15) and pleasant things. Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with
a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to
rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain. And at the time of the end shall the king of
the south push at him: and the king of the north (the context is Syria) shall come against him like
a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the
countries, and shall overflow and pass over. He shall enter also into the glorious land,
(Jerusalem) and many countries shall be overthrown: (Dan. 11:38-41).
i. ...But these shall escape out of his hand (Dan 11:41-12:1)
Shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things
of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. But tidings out of the east and
out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and
utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in
the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. (Dan.11:41-44).
C. Note the things absent from the language[8] of this future king
The language concerning the "king" of Dan.11:35-45does not include the Temple, Covenant or the
daily sacrifice being taken away, because there will be no animal sacrifices or earthly Temple rebuilt
in Jerusalem in the last days (i.e. "the time of the end" or "the appointed time"). This is because…
1. The Temple was not mentioned in Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4
There is no Temple in Jerusalem today. It was destroyed 70 AD[5] just as the Daniel prophesied it
would (Dan.9:26) and Jesus confirms by say that their house would be left desolate, not one stone
left upon another (Matt.23:36-Matt.24:1-4, 15-22). The only Temple that is the Temple of God today
(after the Cross / New Testament) is the Church (Acts.7:48; 17:24, 1Cor.6:19 / Eph.2:20-22, Col.
2:18 / John.2:18-20). We are the Temple of God now, we are being built a spiritual House / Temple
and we will be a finished Temple of God (Rev.11:1-2).
2. The Covenant was not mentioned in Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4
Note: The king (Page.2) coming against the Covenant, polluting the Sanctuary and taking away the
daily sacrifice, (Dan.11:30-31) does not continue in Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4. It is furute to us (the future /
appointed time / the end / last days), yet for a time appointed. The "king" v.36 / antichrist, will
still be against God's Covenant, "everything that is called God" (2Thes.2:4), but not against a
Covenant that he made with the Jews.
3. The daily sacrifice was not mentioned in Dan.11:35-45; 12:1-4
Daniel prophesied that the "sacrifice and the oblation" (offering) would cease (Dan.9:27), which
did happen when Jesus made "reconciliation for iniquity" (Dan 9:24). Jesus came to confirm
the Covenant (Gal.3:16-17) that God made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Moses and David.
Jesus' sacrifice made the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. Hebrews says the Law (this included
the daily sacrifice) "was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts
and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect, (i.e. the Law could never take
away sin (Heb.10:4) as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and
divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. But
Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle,
not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption
for us" (Heb.9:9-12, 10; 1-20, Dan 12:10-13).
V. At that time of the end shall Michael stand up (Dan.11:38-12:1)
The time of the future king and his activities is confirmed by Michael standing up, "the great prince which
standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there
was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall
be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt" (Dan.12:1-2).
A. This is the return of Jesus
1. Because…
"Them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake…to everlasting life." These are the "dead
in Christ." That ONLY happens when Jesus returns (Gen.2:7; 3:9, 1Thes.4:13-18,
John.5:28-29, Acts.24:15).
2. Because…
Some "to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt" (Dan.12:1-2). These are
the unsaved dead, those that die and have not accepted Christ as their savior. These are the
unjust (unjustified in Christ). These awake (resurrect) to everlasting contempt (damnation) after
the saved have had the thousand year rest with Christ.
Note: Daniel was told to shut up (seal up) the book "even to the time of the end" (Dan.12:4).
This (seal) book was opened in Rev.5:1-14; 6:1-17; 8:1-4. Therefore the Book of Revelation is the
interpreter of Dan.12:4-13.
B. However, Daniel kept asking questions
"Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the
river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. And one said to the man clothed in linen,
which was upon the waters of the river"...(Daniel 12:5-6)
1. How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
"And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up
his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be
for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the
holy people, all these things shall be finished. And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O
my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?" (Dan. 12:6-8)
a. The time, times and an half is the answer
This term is used and interpreted as 1260 days in Revelation (the unsealed book (Rev.12:6, 14,
Rev.13:5 / Rev.11:1-8, Dan.7:25).
Note: At 30 days to a month, time, times, and an half is 3 1/2 years. It is also
1260 days or 42 months). THIS CONFIRMS that Dan.12:5-13 are end-time events, FUTURE TO US.
b. Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
"Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none
of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the daily
sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a
thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand
three hundred and five and thirty days" (Dan. 12:9-12).
(1) "...From the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away..." (Dan. 12:11)
The daily sacrifice was fulfilled / taken away when was Jesus sacrificed as the true
Passover Lamb (Gal.1:6-9; 4:10-11, 1Peter.1:18-20, Heb.9:1-28; 10:1-23).

(2) "…and the abomination that maketh desolate set up…" (Dan. 12:11-13)
There shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days, (1290). Blessed is he that waiteth,
and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days, (1335).
The final word given to Daniel is "go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest,
and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
