Romans.9:1-33 (Verse by verse Commentary)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"I say the truth
in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That
I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
(Rom.9:1)  For I could wish that myself
were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:  Who are
Israelites;
to whom
pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and
the service of God, and the promises;  Whose are the fathers,[0] and of whom as concerning the
flesh Christ came,
[0] who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.  Not as though the word of God
hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel"
(Rom.9:1-6)

I.  Chap.9:1
    The truth in Christ
,
the anointing,[0] I lie not,[0]my conscience[0] also bearing me witness in the
    Holy Ghost
(v.1)

  A.  I say the "truth"
         1.  Jesus said, "thy Word is truth"
(John.17:17)
         2. It is what God's Word (the truth) say's about Paul's kinsmen after the flesh who are Israelites is the "truth"
nothing less and nothing more. (NOTE:
Gal.4:16; 5:7, 1Peter.1:18-20 . Eph.2:11-20; 3:1-12)

(Exod.19:1-6, Rom.9:6-8)

  B.  In Christ (Anointing[0] / New Creation / creature 2Cor.5:17-18)
         1.  The apostle Paul who was in Christ recognized that in his flesh, things gained to me, (in my
flesh/ his natural lineage / offspring) I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but
loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord for whom I have suffered the loss of all
              things.
(Phil.3:8)
              a.  He wrote, I count being Circumcised on the eighth day,"but I count it but dung, (that
                   I may win Christ."
(
Gen.17:10-27; 21:4,Acts.7:8; 15:1-24, Phil.3:1-14, 1Cor.1:19-31; 2:1-14,
                     Rom.7:18)

              b.  He wrote that he was of the stock (offspring) of Israel "but I count it dung, (what is
                   feed to the dogs
[0]) that I may win Christ."[0]
              c.  He wrote that he was of the tribe of Benjamin, but I count it but dung,
[0] that I may
                   win Christ."
(Phil.3:4-8)
              d.  He wrote he was a Hebrew of the Hebrews is but dung,
[0] that I may win Christ."
                     (Phil.3:4-8)

              e.  As touching the law, a Pharisee, but I count it but dung,
[0] that I may win Christ."(Phil.3:4-8)
The apostle Paul desired to "win Christ and wished that his "kinsmen" would be saved
i.e.
Born Again

(Rom.10:1, Phil.3:1-4-8) NOTE: How the Pharisees always focused on the natural and not on the spiritual.

(John.2:18-20, Mark 14:53-58, also Sabbath )

  C.  What is "winning Christ?"[0] (Phil.3:8)
         1.  To win - Strong's NT#2770 - to gain (literally or figuratively):—(get) gain, win. Paul was already saved,
why then does he write about winning Christ?
              a.  When we were
born again we are a babe (baby / novice / unskillful in the word of righteousness in
                   Christ, and we begin a
spiritual  Journey(Exod.12:1-51, Duet.6:23, John.3:1-6, 2Cor.5:7-8. 1John.2:12-14)

b.  Then we need to grow up
(Eph.4:15) into Him (Christ) to maturity / Adulthood (1Cor.3:9-12) / to full
                   statue of Christ
(Eph.4:11-16; 5:21-32, Phil.3:15) waiting "tillwe all come to the unity[0] of the faith"

(Eph.4:11-16)
         2.  Paul was speaking of above and beyond being saved,
(coming out of Egypt) water baptized

(Red Sea) and filled with the Holy Ghost. (Mt. Sinai)(Acts.9:17-22, 1Cor.10:1-11)Review: PHASE.2
              a.  NOTE: He (Paul) wrote that he was pressing
[0] toward the mark [0] for the prize of the high
                   calling
[0] of God in Christ Jesus. (Phil.3:15)
              b.  Paul says, he wanted to "be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law,
but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
(Phil.3:15)
              c.  Paul says, "that I may know him,"
[0] NOTE: 1Cor.13:9-12
                   (1)  And the power of his resurrection,
                   (2)  And the fellowship of his sufferings,
                   (3)  Being made conformable unto his death;
                   (4)  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
(Phil.3:15)

NOTE: Paul writes, "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: (i.e. the
                   mark,
[0] for the prize of the high calling[0] of God in Christ Jesus, but I follow after, if that I may
apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

              d.  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended:
(Phil.3:13) but this one thing I do, forgetting
                   those things
(Phil.3:4-8)which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
              e.  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God
[0] in Christ Jesus.
              f.   Let us therefore, as many as be perfect,
(Eph.4:11) be thus minded. (NOTE: Once you are "in
                   Christ"
(2Cor.5:17 / John.3:1-6) there is a "pressing in" towards "the mark[0] for the prize of the
high calling of God in Christ Jesus)
              g.  And if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

h.  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, (i.e. pressing)

(Phil.3:16, 1Cor.1:10-13)

              i.  Concerning zeal, persecuting the church but I count it but dung,
[0] that I may win Christ."(Phil.3:4-8)
              j.   As touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless but I count it but dung,
[0] that I may win
                   Christ."
(Phil.3:4-8) [Think of Moses who "was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was
mighty in words (of the Egyptians) and in deeds.(of the Egyptians)  And when he was full forty years old,
it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
Acts.7:23-24, Heb.11:24-28] The writer of
                   Hebrews said, "Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had
respect unto the recompence of the reward." (Heb.11:24-26)

NOTE: It is abundantly clear what God thinks of our flesh!
(Rom.7:8; 8:8, 1Cor.1:29)

D.  My conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost (Rom.9:1)

   1.  What is your conscience? It is your spirit. (Gen.2:7,1Cor.2:1-10, Heb.4:13; 9:9)
                a.  We are made in God's image. Body, Spirit, Soul
(Gen.1:26-31, 1Thes.5:23)
                b.  The the LORD formed man of the dust of the ground (Body)
(Gen.2:7)
                c.  And breadth into his nostrils the breadth of life (Spirit)
(Gen.2:7) "For what man knoweth the things
of a man, save the spirit of God which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the
                     Spirit of God.
(1Cor.2:11) NOTE: Your spirit is your conscience

               d.  Whensin entered the world Adam and Eve's spirit (the candle of the Lord) died and it was put out.
                     (became darkness
Eph.5:00, Eph.2:1-2, 5:8, Col.1:13)
               e.   Now mankind has been
walking according to the desires of the flesh (body) and of the
mind; (Soul) and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (Soul is your mind, will and
                     emotions
Rom.5:10-14,12:1-2)[0]
              f.    When you became
"Born Again" (Saved / a new creature creation in Christ / Just-Justified / a Babe
in Christ that needs to grow to the full measure of Christ / a mature full grown man / ONE MAN / a
Holy Nation) your candle was lit. (Now the Spirit (Holy Spirit / Ghost) bears witness with our spirit

                       (Rom.8:16)

II. Chap.9:2

   A.  I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. (Rom.9:1; 10:1)  For I could wish that myself
were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh. [NOTE: The
parallel
             between Paul and Moses
[0]

             1.  The apostle Paul desired that his "kinsmen" would be saved i.e. Born Again(Rom.10:1, Phil.3:1-4-8)
             2.  Why? Because the Jews (Paul's kinsmen) need to be saved
(Rom.3:23; 10:1)
                  a.  Death (sin) has passed on to all (Jew and Gentile) men
(Rom.5:10-14)
                  b.  The children of the flesh of Abraham were given the Lawto coverthere sin until the time of
reformation. (the time that Messiah comes.
(John.1:29-44; 4:23-24, 1Peter.1:18-20) NOTE: God's time

table.  The Law was a "figure for the time then present" (Heb.9:1-10, NOTE.v8)
             3.  Daniel prophesied that Messiah (the anointed one) was been revealed.
(Dan.9:24-27 John.1:29-42;
                    4:23-24)

             4.  Jew and Gentile must be in Christ (The Messiah / the anointed one)
(Eph.2:11-22)
"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of
the world, but was manifest in these last times for you."
(Exod.12:1-14,1Cor.5:7-8, 1Peter.1:18-20)
                  a.  The Jews as "A NATION" rejected Christ.
(Dan.24-27, Rom.9:1-33; 10:1-3; v.18-21 / Isa.64:6)
                  b.  When Paul's kinsmen after the flesh accept Christ as the Messiah, He will remove the
Vail (the blindness that is upon the reading of the Old Testament scriptures
(Gen.-Mal., Matt.5:17-19,
                         Luke.24:1-45, 2Cor.3:1-18, v.14-17)

                       (1)  ThatVail (of blindness
Isa.6:9; 29:13; 42:19-20, Rom.11:25) that exists because they broke their
                              covenant
with God.
(Lev.26:1-33, Rom.11:1-25; 20-28/v.17, 19, 20)
                       (2)  Even to this day, the vail, (of blindness
Rom.11:25) when Moses is read, the vail is upon their
their hearts. This which vail is done away in Christ, "IF" they "abide not still in unbelief.
                              (NOTE:
Rom.9-11)
                       (3)  NOTE: "even to this day" applies to to our day as well the 1st Cent. Church because this
blindness will continue until the fullness (i.e. the full number of the Gentiles / Nations) be come
                              in.
(Rom.11:25, Eph.2:11-19) [See PHASE.5, Page.7]  NOTE: There is a time set aside for Paul's
kinsmen after the flesh (the Jew today) to be "grafted back in again
                              (a)  This is because
                              (b)

NOTE:  When sin entered the world (Gen.3:1-24, Rom.5:10-14)man's spirit died

(Gen.2:17, 5:1-5, 2Peter.3:1-9[0])This is why man's spirit needs to be born again. Since
that time mankind has been walking "according to the course of this world, according
to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation (lifestyle) in times past in the lusts of our
                        flesh
, (Body) fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; (soul)
Eph.2:1-3

               c.  When you are saved, you are born again spirit will bear (give (evidence), bear record to what
                    you
                    (1)  Strong's NT#4828 / to testify jointly, i.e. corroborate by (concurrent) evidence
                    (2)  Corroborate - confirm or give support to (a statement, theory, or finding)[0]
                    (3)  Concurrent -

          3.  In Christ (the anointing that is no lie
(1John.2:18-27)
               a.  Paul was in Christ
(2Cor.5:17) What does it mean to be in the anointing?
                    (1)  .
                    (2)  .
               b.  Jesus warning about a false anointing / Christ
(Matt.24:4-5)

              c.  This was foreshadowed in the Law of Moses (Exod.33:)

                    (1)  Don't make anything like it or you will be cut off
                    (2)  .
                    (3)  .

    B.  Great heavinessand continual sorrow in my heart. (v.2)thatIsrael might be saved
(Rom.10:1-3)
          1.  Who was Paul's kinsmen?
               a.  They were tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve sons of Jacob (Israel), who was the son of Isaac, who
was the son of Abraham, from which came the Nation of Israel.
                    (1)  Paul says, "what things were gain to me..." [gained in my flesh] those I counted loss for Christ.
                           (i.e. forgetting those [these] things
(2Chron.32.7-9, Rom.7:18; 8:5-8, 1Cor.1:19-29; 2:1-14, Phil.3:7-8)
                           (a)  Circumcised the eighth day
(Gen.17:1-14, 21:1-4, Acts.7:8; 15:1-34, Rom.2:28-29; 4:11, 1Cor.7:18,
                                    Gal.5:2-3, Col.2:11)

                           (b)  Of the stock (of spring / kin / born) of Israe
l (Gen.)
                           (c)  Of the tribe of Benjamin
(Gen.)
                           (d)  An Hebrew of the Hebrews / [an exemplary Hebrew]; as to the  Law, a Pharisee;
(Gen.)
                           (e)  As touching [observance of] the law, a Pharisee
(Gen. )
                           (f)   Concerning zeal, persecuting the church
(Gen.)
                           (g)  Touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. (Gen.) the young man still fell short

NOTE: What Paul says, "Yea doubtless, and I count all things (Phil.3:5-6) but loss for the excellency
of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do
                           count them
(Phil.3:1-6) but dung,[0] that I may win Christ. (Isa.64:6, Rom.5:10-14; 7:7-14, 1Cor.1:19-31,
                             Phil.3:1-15)

        (2)  .

               b.  NOTE: Israel (Paul's kinsmen according the flesh
Rom.9:5) went about "establishing their own
                    righteous"
(Isa.64:4, Rom.7:18; 10:1-3)
                    (1)  This (began after the House of Judah (Jews)
[0] was released from captivity of Babylon (Ezra /
Nehemiah) they began to add to
(Deut.12:32)  and diminish (Prov.30:5) the Law of Moses with
their traditions and commandments of men found in their commentaries (such as The
Oral Torah,

Talmud, Mishnna,Misrash and Gemara.

NOTE:  The Church world is still adding and diminishing with all the modern
                           translations today

                    (2)  NOTE: This ("establishing their own righteous"
(Isa.64:4, Rom.7:18; 10:1-3)
began when sin entered
                           the world.
(Gen.3:1-24, Rom.5:10-14) Adam and Eve knew they were naked and they needed to cover
up, so they made "fig leaf aprons" to cover their nakedness
(Gen.3:1-24, Heb.4:12-13)
                    (3)  .
          2.  This heaviness is in context with God's Purpose from the beginning
               (foundation of the earth.
(Gen.1:1, 1Peter.1:18-20, John.3:126, Eph.1:4; 2:1-22;
                3:1-23)

    C.   As concerning the flesh Christ came (v.3)
          1.  NOTE: The geneology from Abraham to
          2.  Abraham had a star seed
(Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-22, Gal.3:1-29; 4:21-28)
          3.  Abraham had a sand seed
(Gen.) "according to the flesh" / Nation
          4.  And dust seed of Abraham
(Gen.) Ishmael / Esau / Nations
          5.  Paul: "I certify (make known, give to you understand)
[0] brethren, that the gospel which was preached of
me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of  Jesus
               Christ. (Gal.4:21-28, NOTE: Rom.9:)
          6.  No flesh may glory in your presence (1Cor.1:28-29)

    D.  Savedmeaning to be
"born again"(John.1:1-14, Rom.10:1)NOTE:v.11
          1.  Jesus told Nicodemus (a master / teacher of Israel) "you must be born again"
(John.3:7)
          2.
Nicodemus response was "can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time
into his mother's womb, and be born?
(John.3:4) The immediate response of Nicodemus was to
               think natural
(1Cor.1:19-29; 2:1-4, 2Cor.4:18)
               a.  We MUST be
born again because when Adam fell into sin, this sin "passed on to all men" (Rom.5:10-14)
including the Jews. For all have sinned and come short.
(Rom.3:23)

                    (1)  When God created man, He made them spirit, soul and body (Gen.2:, 1Thes.5:25,)
                    (2)  When sin entered the world man's spirit died (darkness
Eph.5:8) now man is "walking according
to the course of this world..in the lusts of our flesh and of the mind (soul)
               b.  Rom.11:25-28 All / only a remmant
          3.  When Jesus said, "destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up [without hands]

John.2:18-20, Mark.14:58The Jews (Pharisees, Saduchees, Scribes) immediate response
was to think naturally.  They failed to see spiritually (Isa.Matt.13:10-17)
          4.  More examples

a.  Abraham / Circumcision  (Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-15; 17:1-
               b.  .
               c.  .

NOTE: Some are still looking for a natural Temple. However
The Spirit is saying to the Church
               TODAY there will be
spiritual Temple. (1Peter.1:10-12, Isa.2:1-4, Haggai.1:1-9, Acts.6:1-15; 7:1-50,
                Eph.2:1-22; 3:1-12

II.  Chapter.
9:6-33

"Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. (v.7)

8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

                                  -  The two on the way to Emmaus their immediate response was to think naturally. They

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Matt.13:10-17) dull hearing Heb.5:11-14

               c.   Note the parallel between Moses and Paul
                     (1)  The Law (John.1:17) came by Moses
                           (a)  Who said, "take my name out of thy book" (Exod.32:32) NOTE:
                           (b)  Moses said "A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like
unto me; (MOSES) him (JESUS, The Messiah) shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say
                                  unto you." (Deut.18:15, Acts.3:22)
                           (c)   The Shadow / types / figures  / blueprint / "after their pattern which was shown thee (you) in
                                  the mount (Exod.25:9-40, Heb.9:1-29; 10:1-25)
                           (d)  Faithful over his House (Exod.25:8, Heb.3:1-6)
                           (e)  Moses "was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in
                                  deeds. (Exod.2:11, Acts.7:22, Phil.3:1-8, Heb.11:24-29)

                     (2)  Grace came by Jesus Christ who called the Paul
                            (Exod.25-40, Levi.1-Matt.5:17-19[0], Acts.9:1-22, Rom.1:1, 1Cor.1:1, 2Cor.1:1, Gal.1:1-12, Eph.1:1, Col.1:1, 1Thes.1:1,6)
                            (a)  I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren [se pointsthat they
                                  might be saved (Rom.9:1-8; 10:1, Phil.3:1-14)
                            (b)  Paul says, "now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by
the law and the prophets" (Rom.3:21)
                            (c)  The Shadow / types / figures / blueprint / An apostle (a wise masterbuilder (, architect / the
                                   reader of blueprints[0]) was given revelation to read the blueprint (Gal.1:11-12, Heb.9:1-29;
                                   10:1-25)
                           (d)   Faithful over his House (Heb.3:1-6)
                           (e)  Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath
whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel,
of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning
zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But
what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.  Yea doubtless, and I count all
things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have
suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ."
                                     (Exod.2:11, Acts.7:22, 1Cor.1:1-29; 2:1-14, Phil.3:1-8)

                     (1)  Heaviness - sadness, grief, sorrow.

                            (a)  Jesus "wept" over Jerusalem / miss their "day of visitation" (Dan.9:24-26, Luke.19:41-45,
                                     1Peter.1:18-20, Gal.4:21-28, Rev.11:1-8)
(NOTE: The words "manifest in the last times")
                            (b)  Jesus "weeping" and Paul's "great heaviness" for his "kinsmen according to the flesh" does
change the fact that they must be saved.
[0](Exod.12:1-14,1Cor.5:7-8,Eph.2:1-22,)
                            (c)  We can "grieve" (the Holy Spirit
(Eph.4:30)

(Gen.2:17; 3:3:1-24, Rom.5:12)
                     (3)  "For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
(Rom.11:32)
               c.  NOTE: The History of the earthly Jerusalem / knewest not the time of thy visitation.
                    (1)  It began as Jebus
                    (2)  Earthly Jerusalem was the City of God which pointed to the city that Abraham saw

(Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-22; 16:1-15; 17:1-15-22; 21:1-15, John.8:56, Gal.4:21-28, )
                    (3)  Now it is compared to Hagar / Ishmael / compared to Sinai / flesh

                    (2)   two sons (Ishmael and Isaac)
(Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-15)
               b.  Isaac had two sons (Esau and Jacob whose name was changed to Israel
(Gen.32:28)

c.  Jacob / Israel had twelve sons (Gen.49:1-)

          8.  To whom pertaineth (pertains / belongs to)[0] the adoption, and the glory, and the
covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises. v4

And the Promises
          9.  Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God
               blessed for ever.
        10.  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:v.5
               a.  .
               b.  .

     B.  All of Abraham's seed were not the children of the promise / Chap.9, v.7-24
          1.
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children:
          2.  But, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. (v.7)
          3.  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the
promise are counted for the seed. (v.8)
          4.  For this is the word of promise.
               a.  At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

This "truth" was given to Paul. "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.  For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. (Gal.1:11-12, 1Cor.2:1-14)

NOTE
The "children of the

flesh" of Abraham ears and eyes had become "dull' because they added to and "diminished" God's Word with their own writings. (i.e.The OralTorah, Talmud, Mishnna, Midrash and Gemara) (Deut.12:32, Prov.30:54, Matt.13:10-17; 15:1-9)
