Tabernacle of David

What was David's Tabernacle?
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It was a tent,[1] a cloth hut"[1] that housed the presence of God upon the Ark of the Covenant on Mt. Zion after David became king. Before the reign of David, the Ark of the Covenantbelonged in theTabernacle (tent) of Moses where only the high priest had access to once a year. This was the leading edge of truth that the children of Israel understood from Sinai (Exod.25:8-22) until the time of David's Tabernacle. (1Chron.13-16)REVIEW: PHASE 2,Page.3

Now under king David's reign(with God's blessing) the Levites were given access "continuallyto the Ark of theCovenant as every day's work required" (This "work" was singing with stringed, wind and percussion instruments)
THIS WAS NEW!
[2] NOTE: The Priesthood continued with the offering sacrifices at the Tabernacle of Moses. (1Chron.15:1-28; 16:37-43; 23:25-26, 30, 1Chron.28:19)

Summary chart of the journey of the Ark of the Covenant (Presence of God)

I.  A brief history of the Ark of the Covenant / The Presence of God until David

     A.  We must start at the beginning.
(Prov.18:13) "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Gen.1:1)
     B.  On the sixth day (of creating the earth), God created man (Adam and Eve
Gen.1:27-28; 2:4-17) and placed
          them
in the garden eastward in Eden "to dress and keep it" as they walked and talked with God in His

          presence
, in the cool of the evening. (Gen.3:8)
     C.  Thensin entered the world and the walking and talking in God's
presencewas breached causing Adam and Eve
to hide themselves from His (God's)
presence. (Gen.3:1-24, Rom.5:10-12)
     D.  But "God who is rich in mercy"
initiated a way for mankind to return back into His presence(Eph.2:4,
            Gen.3:1-24; 4:1-4, Rom.5:10-15; 16:20, Col.2:14-15)
This would take the woman's seed crushing the serpents
           head
(Gen.3:15)
     E.   Then God made
"coats of skins to cover their nakedness." (Sin) He had no respect (or reverence, deference,
honor) for their fig leaf aprons.
(Gen.2:21; 3:1-21, Isa.64:6, 2Cor.6:14-18, Heb.4:13)
     F.   Then God drove out the man
[3] from the Garden, out from God's presence and the ONLY way back to
walking and taking with God in His
presence is through the "Cherubim and a flaming sword which turns every
           way" which meant certain death
(Gen.3:22-24, Rom.5:10-15)
     G.  This became man's spiritual status. Driven out of God's
presence  while waiting for the hope of the

woman's seed that would bruise the serpents head. (Gen.3:17-21)
     H.  This continued in Abel's offering the firstlings of the flock
(Gen.4:1-4, Heb.11:4 / Rom.10:17)
     I.    This continued in Noah's offering upon a Altar after the flood
(Gen.8:20-22)(NOTE: The Garden of Eden was
but the truth of Cherubims with a flaming sword continues in the consuming fire of the Altar.
     J.    This continuedin Abraham's offering upon a Altar
(Gen.12:8)

     I.    When God initiated
[0] the Law of Moses, (Rom.7:7-9)mankind became accountable to all the Law (Gal.3:10,
            James.2:10, Rom.7:7-14)
because God wanted to  "dwell amongst" (among / closer) us. This required the
Tabernacle structure which centered around the
Ark of the Covenant / Presence of God (Exod.25:8-22,
            Exod.40:1-38)

           1.  This was where God communed, ruled and reigned from "above the mercy
                seat...between the two Cherubims"
(2Sam.7:13, Exod.25:8-22) However mankind
was still kept outside of God's presence in the Most Holy Place and
only the high

priest (representing the people) could enter with the Vail on the day of Atonement.

(Lev.10:1-2; 16:1-2) "Which was a figure for the time then present...imposed on
them until the time of reformation." i.e. Till Christ comes
[4]

           2.  The Tabernacle pattern (that housed God's presence)It was the
"present truth"

(2Peter.1:12) that "the church in the wilderness" (Acts.7:37-38, 1Cor.10:1-11) lived by
from Sinai to the Land promised to Abraham.
(Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-15, Exod.25:8-22;
                 26:33-34; 30:6, 40:20-38, Lev.16:2, Num.10:1-35; 14:44, Josh.3:3-18; 6:1-13; 18:1-2, )

           3.  When they entered the Land (under the leadership of Joshua), the Tabernacle (including the Ark of the
                Covenant) came to rest
[5]at ShilohJosh.3:3-18; 6:1-13; 18:1-2) "And the Land was subdued before them..."
                 (Josh.18:2)

           4.  But Israel did not "drive outall of the inhabitants of the Land.
(Josh.1-24, Judges.2:1-10)

           5.   This lead to them
(Judges.1-21:15) being defeated by the Philistines and the  Ark of God taken captive. This
left the Tabernacle with no Ark of the Covenant (no presence, no glory) NOTE:
1Sam.4:21-22
           6.  The Philistines could not handle the Ark of the Covenant and they returned it. (
1Sam.3:3; 4:3-18; 5:5-6:11-21)
           7.  Upon the Ark's return even the people of God mishandled it
(1Sam.6:19-21)
           8.  No one wanted to be around the Ark of the Covenant and it remained at Kirjathjearim for 20 years.

                  (1Sam.6:21; 7:1-2)

           9.  During this time Saul became that first king of Israel
(1Sam.8:1-22; 9:27; 10:1) who never inquired
"communed" with God "from above the mercy seat...in all things"
(Exod.25:8-22, 1Sam.10:1,1Chron.13:3)
          10. Saul failed as king and was rejected as king and David reigned in his place
(1Sam.8:1-2; 1Sam.15:1-34,
                  2Sam.5:1-12 / 1Chron.13:1-3)

II. The first thing David said as king, "let us bring again the ark of our God to us."

"So David (a man after God's own heart
Acts.13:22,36) gathered all Israel together, from Shiloh of Egypt even
unto the entering of Hemath, to bring  the ark of God from Kirjathjearim. And David went up, and all Israel, to
Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the Lord, that
dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it."
(Exod.25:8-22, 1Chron.13:5-6; 13:1-3, Acts.13:22;
     36, 1Chron.13:5-14; 15:1-29; 16:1-43)

    A.  David's intentions[6]were good, but failed to follow the "dueorder" completely

After "fetching" the Ark and Uzza dying because he touched
[7] the Ark David said, "the Lord our God
           made
a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after thedue order. So the priests and the Levites

sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel. And the children of the Levites (the sons
of Korah) bare the ark of God upon their
shoulders ("due order") with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded
according to the word of the Lord.
(1Chron.13:10-14)

   1.  Note: The sons of Aaron the Priests were there to offer the sacrifices according to
                the "due order"
(2Sam.6:13, Lev.1:5, 15; 2:1-2; 3:2; 4:16)
           2.  The sons of Kohath (
the Levites) were there to carry the Ark of God according to
the "due order" however they (all Israel) put the Ark on a new cart which caused
                a "
breach" because this was NOT the due order. This was Kohathites (son of Levi)
                responsiblity.
(Num.1:47-54; 3:1-51; 4:1-15, 1Chron.13:7)

            3.  David gathered and all Israel
The "due order" says, only the Levites
(the sons of Kohath) not all Israel
.
                (Num.1:47-54; 3:38-39; 7:9, 1Sam.15:15)
                 1Chron.13:3-7)

           4.  David and all Israel carried the Ark of God on a new
[8]cart
                a.  NOTE: The "due order" did iclude some parts of the Tabernacle to carried
                      on a cart.
(Num.7:1-9, 1Sam.4:1-11; 6:10-21)
                      (1)  OPINION: This could have been a Philistine carry over? (NOTE:
1Sam.6:7)
                      (2)  OPINION: This could have been the result of a loose / general understand-
                            ing of God's Word.
                b.  The "due order" was on the
shoulder's of the Levites / Kohathites (Num.7:9)
It should be noted that their playing with all their might with singing, and with
harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with
                      trumpets, did not exempt
[9]them from being accountable for the patterns
and principles of the Law of Moses
. It was still in effect.
(Num.3:27-32; 4:1-16,
                        1Chron.16:37-43)

NOTE: This is why God smote Uzza
(1Chron.13:9) because Uzza was a Benjaminite (1Chron.8:1-7) and not
of the family Levi (Kohath) (NOTE:
Lev.10:1-2; 16:1-2, Num.20:7-12, 1Cor.10:1-4, Heb.6:6, Neh.7:63-65,

2Chron.26:16-21)

           5.  NOTE: The "due order" says the
Levites needed to be sanctified (set apart)
                 a.   David was qualified because he was a prophet, priest and king
(Acts.2:30, 1Sam.21:5-7 /
                         Num.3:38-29, Lev.24:1-9)NOTE: 1Cor.14:29 / 2Tim.2:15

                       (1)  NOTE: How
Moses, and David point to The Lord Jesus Christ, The Prophet, Priest and King.
                       (2)  Both built / made a habititation for God's presence, according to the pattern.
(Exod.25:8, 1Chron.28:19)
                 b.   The Kohathites failed in their responsibility to
sanctify themselves and failed in their responsibility
to carry the Ark on the shoulders.
(Num.7-9, 1Chron.13:13-15)
                       (1)  Note the conditions of Israel before David became king
                              (a)  They had come into the Land under Joshua
(Review: PHASE 2, Page 3)
                              (b)  The Tabernacle of Moses was set up at Shiloh "and the land was subdued
                                     before them"
(Josh.18:1-2)
                              (c)  However the Book of Judges records their relapses into idolatry of the Land
and "every man" doing that which is right in his own eyes.
(Judges.21:25)
                             (d)  The Book of Samuel begins with Eli's (the
high priest) and his son's (the priest-
                                    hood
) who had no fear (reverence, respect or honor) for the "due order" and
caused the people to "abhored the offering of the Lord."
(1Sam.2:11-17)
                              (e)  The "due order" was being "choked out."
[10]The result (fruit) was the Ark was
                                    taken into captivity.
(1Sam.2:11-17; 4:1-11 / Note Jer.7:1-12 Key word "Shiloh)
                                       NOTE: Matt.13:22

(f)  It was a dark time for Israel. God told Moses "there (at the Ark of the Covenant)
I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat,
from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of
all things which I will give thee in
commandment unto the children of Israel."

(Exod.25:1-22)

B.  David prepared a place for the Ark of God in Mt. Zion(NOTE: 1Chron.28:19, Acts.13:22,36)

"All this, said David, the Lord made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of
           this pattern." David
(Acts.13:22, 36) was doing a NEW thing with God's blessing because "the Lord made
him (David) understand" (Others experienced disaster
Num.14:1-45, 1Sam.4:1-11; 5:1-12; 6:1-21 / v.18-21)

           1.  David made him houses in the city of David, and
prepared a place[0]for the ark of God, and pitched for it a
                tent (Tabernacle / Cloth hut)
[1] in Mt. Zion. (1Chron.11:5; 28:19, 2Chron.5:2, Psa.125:1, Rom.9:33, Heb.12:22.
                  1Peter.2:6 / Eph.2:20-22, 1Cor.3:10-15, Rom.11:26)
REVIEW: PHASE.2, Page.3
                a.  David did not put the Ark of the Covenant back in the Tabernacle that Moses built
(1Chron.13:1-6; 1
                       1Chron.5:1-29; 16:1-43)NOTE: 1Chron.28:19

                b.  Now there are two structures (
See Page.2 for the significance of these two tents" (1Chron.8:5; 17:5)
                     (1)  The Tabernacle of Moses which was the "present truth" from Sinai
(Exod.25:8) to entering
                            the Land
(Gen.12:1-2; 15:1-22) and resting at Shiloh (Josh.18:1) under Joshua's leadership.
                            (Review:
PHASE.2, Page.3)

                     (2)  The Tabernacle of David continued from the time of king David, until the completion of
                           Solomon's Temple.
(2Chron.5:1-14)Review: PHASE.2, Page.3, IX. A-C
           2.  The importance of the place that God chooses
(Deut.12:1-12; 16:16-17, Lev.17:1-11, Exod.
                 40:5-7
"set")
                a.  God told Abraham there would be "land"
(Gen.12:1-2)
                b.  Moses said there will be "place" in the "Land"
(Deut,12:1-2)
                c.  David identified where the "place" was in the Land
(1Chron.21:22)
           3.  The importance ofthe name being recorded in the "place"
(Exod.20:24,11; 14:23-24;
                 16:2,6,11, Deut.12:5,11; 14:23; 16:2,6,11, 1Chron.13:6; 22:19; 29:16, 2Chron.2:1,4; 6:6,

a.  The Temple (which was the next and final step after David's Tabernacle) was "for the
                     name of the Lord
(Matt.18:16, Eph.3:15, 2Chron.6:6, Eph.2:20-2, Col.3:17)

NOTE: God's Name was recorded upon the Ark of the Covenant and it's journey
                     stopped at Solomon's Temple
(1Chron.13:6; 17:1-15) It "moved no more"

                b.  The name is the nature / it is who the person is.
"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: (in the Word of God)
that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,(called by His Name
Acts.15:17)having escaped the
corruption that is in the world through lust."  (
2Peter.1:4, 1John.2:16 / Compare Eve-Gen.3:1-00, 2Cor.11:1-4)
                     (1)  David told Goliath
[0] that he was coming in the name of the Lord of Hosts. This was everything that
God is to defeat him (Goliath)
1Sam.17:45 / NOTE: Col.2:17
                     (1)  We have been "bought with a price" and given His "family" name.
(1Cor.6:19-20, Eph.3:15)
                     (2)  God's name is recorded upon us in water baptism
(Matt.28:19-20, Matt.18:16,
                              Eph.3:15, 2Chron.6:6, Eph.2:20-2, Col.3:17)
into the name (Matt.28:19 / John.16:10-15,
                              Acts.2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5)

                     (3)  This was foreshadowed in the Old Testament (blueprint).  At circumcision[0] (Gen.21:1-5)

the male child was given their name which points to our water baptism. (Matt.28:19,
                              Rom.2:28-29, Col.2:11-12)

                            (a)  Circumcision (to be separated, a cutting off) i.e. the old man (life) to be conformed to
                                  the image of Christ.
(2Cor.5:17

  (b)  NOTE: This is what
the antichrist will copy (counterfeit) Rev.13:15) when the false Prophet

causes the people to make an image of the beast and make everyone "take the mark[0] of his
                                  name"
[0] because he wants to be "like the most High" (Rev.13:1-18) NOTE: 1John.2:18-20; 4:1-4
                           (c)  Let no man deceive you
(Matt.24:4) with worship that is "like" the "true worship" (John.4:23-24

2Cor.11:1-7)

                                  -- Jeroboam(1Kings.11:1--43; 12:1-33, Amos.5:20-21) "like(Isa.14:11-14) unto the Feast that is in
                                      Judah"
-- Nebuchadnezzar's "all kinds of instruments" used to bow down to the image
(Dan.2:1-45;3:1-15)
                c.  Leteveryone that (sings, plays and instrument, wind or percussion / drums) who names the name of
                     Christdepart from iniquity
(2Tim.2:19)

  (1)  The Levites were to be sanctified (set apart). (Gen.49:5-7, Num.1:47-54, 1Chron.5:16,31
                              48, 23:26-32; 1Chron.28:19)
NOTE: This was a 24/7 responsibility
                     (2)  They "set up" the Tabernacle and "took it down" ready for travelingfrom Sinai to the Land (promised
                            to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
(Gen.12:1-2, 15:1-22) resting at Shiloh. (Josh.18:1-2)
                     (3)  Now they are housing God's presence with their singing and Worship with stringed, wind and
                           percussion instruments
(1Chron.23 / Psa.22:3)

NOTE: David said, "All this...the Lord made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even
all the works of this pattern."
(1Chron.18:19)

D.  David gave Musical instruments unto the Levites(THIS WAS NEW)

For David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem
for ever: And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the
          service thereof
"
(1Chron.13:23) David "left the "Levites to minister before the Ark. Asaph the chief, and next
to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom:
and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals; Benaiah also and Jahaziel the
priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
(1Chron.16:4-6; 28:19)

           1. Now David is setting the
Levities "to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise
               at even:"
(1Chron.23:25-30)
               a.  Every morning and Evening (NOTE:
Gen.1:5 evening and morning were the first day) No time off
                    (1)  God was the
Levites inheritance. (Num.18:20-24)
                    (2)  The
Levites were to minister unto the Lord. (Num.1:47-54)
                    (3)  God took care of the
Levites needs with the tithe. (Num.18:20-28)
                    (4)  The family of Levi were divided into three parts
(1Chron.6:1-48)
                           (a)  The
Levites that were now the singers and musicians. (1Chron.23:25-30)

(b)  The Priesthood (the sons of Aaron the high priest) that offered the sacrifices on the
                                  Altar
(1Chron.16:37-43)
                           (c)   The
high priest which was Aaron once a year represented the Children of Israel on

the day atonement. (Lev.16:1-34)
               b.  No one has changed David's pattern throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament.

                      (2Chron.11-14,2Chron.29:25; 35:15, Ezra, Neh.12:24)
and this was continued in the New Covenant /
                    Testament
(1Cor.14:26, Eph.5:19, Col.3:16)

NOTE: The sacrifice of Worship requires the name / place[11] (Peace Offering / Heb.13:13-15, John.4:20-24)
The name is the nature. As musicians and singer we are centering around HIS NAME everything the God is
