The Old and New Testaments do NOT fight against each other.
They are in harmony with each other. Grace does not fight against Law! The apostle Paul wrote, "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." (Rom.3:31) The law and the prophets they bear witness (to testify jointly, i.e. corroborate by (concurrent) evidence: to "the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ."2
(Rom.3:20-21)
1. The Law is needed to expose sin and grace is needed to forgive sin
The law "bears witness" that you have sinned and grace forgives that sin. It does not excuse the
sin but pays the price for our sin in the person of the only begotten Son. The Lord Jesus Christ.
a. Paul said, "I had not known sin, but by the law." (Rom.7:7) "For by the law is the knowledge of
sin," (Rom.3:20) but it cannot remove the sin. (Heb.10:1-10)
b. "Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (John 1:17-18) "that the righteusness of the law might
be fulfilled in us" (Rom.8:1-4) who are in Christ Jesus. (2Cor.5:17-21)
Note: To say that "I can do anything I want because I am under Grace, and not under the Law
is a serious error! Grace will never deny the law! "Paul said, "What shall we say then?
Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. (Rom.5:20-21; 6:1-2)
The New Testament truths will always be in harmony with the Old Testament patterns. (types,
shadows)
2. When Jesus, ( who was "God manifest in the flesh"- 1Tim.3:15 ) came to "confirm the covenant"
(Rom.15:8, Gal.3:16-17, Dan.9:27) that God made "unto the fathers," (Rom.11:28) He was
not changing His mind about the Old Testament. He came to complete it! Not to destroy or
abolish it! It was not a New Covenant in the sense of staring over again, it was a New Covenant
because Christ completed (fulfilled) the Old Covenant, (Matt.5:17-19) incorporated and
expanded it to include both Jew and Gentile "afar off." (Acts.2:37-38, Eph.2:1-19; 3:1-12)

4. In the New Covenant (Testament), God writes the same law into our minds, and writes them in MORE NOTES TO COME....................
our hearts, (Heb.8:8-12, Jer.31:31-34, 2Cor.3:1-18) because they are the "blueprint" for
building the Church, God's eternal intent / purpose. (Eph.3:1-12, Matt.16:18)
5. "For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first and counteth the cost
whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation and is
not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him." (Luke.14:25-29)
a, The Church is God's, plan (intent / purpose) from the beginning of the world, (Eph.3:1-12)
b. God sat down first and counted the cost. This took a plan, (blueprint / the Old Testament
types and shadows 1Cor.10:1-11, Rom.15:4) This cost was the offering up of His only begotten
Son as Abraham did with Isaac. (Gen.22, Heb.11:19)
c. The foundation has been laid, Jesus Christ. (1Cor.3:10-11)
d. God will finish His purpose.
The following are some examples of how God intends to build with His "blueprint" in
the New Testament.
The Law is not just the 10 commandments
In our great wisdom we divide up the Law into the ten commandments, (Exod.20:1-17) the Civil Law (Lev.11-22) and the Ceremonial Law. (Lev.23:1-33) God's Word does not make this distinction. Jesus said, "the Law."
1. God's Law has NOT been destroyed!
a. Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot (the smallest letter
in the Hebrew alphabet) or one tittle (the accent on certain letters) shall in no wise pass from the
law, till all be fulfilled." (Matt 5:17-19)
b. Paul wrote, "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the
law." (Rom 3:31)
c. The Law and the Prophets bear witness to the...righteousness of God without the law is
manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets." (Rom 3:21-22)
d. The Law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. (Gal.3:24)
2. When Jesus came, He fulfilled the righteousness of that the law required.
"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, (Rom.5:12-21; 7:7-25)
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, (Phil.2:1-11) and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit." (Rom 8:3-5) In Christ we can keep the "righteousness of the law."
a. The 10 commandments
(1) Have no other gods before me. (Acts.14:11-15, 2Cor.6:14-18)
(2) Thou shalt not make...any graven image. (Acts.17:29)
(3) Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain. (false (-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity) Not just
cursing, but associating the names to vain and useless things. ( )

The Law is still in effect TODAY! It has NOT been destroyed, God has not changed
His mind.
Israel continues into the New Testament
The apostle Paul told the Romans, "For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel."(Rom.9:6) He wrote that "he is a not a Jew, which is one outwardly...but he is a Jew which is one inwardly...of the heart ." (Rom.2:28-29) He told the Galatian Churches that the "Israel of God" are those that are "a new creature" in Christ Jesus. (Gal.6:15-16) He told them because they were in Christ, they were "Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." (Gal.3:1-29) Furthermore, he declared the Gentiles (i.e. every other nation) who are in Christ to be part of the "commonwealth of Israel," and part of the "covenants of promise." (Eph.2:11-19) The Israel of God continues in Christ Jesus because the "blueprint" calls for a "Israel of God." Those that reject Him are cut off. (Rom.9-11)

Circumcision continues in the New Testament
Under the Old Covenant, circumcision was serious and required! (Gen.17:9-14, Exod.4:24-26; 12:48, Josh.5:2-4) After the Cross circumcision finds it's reality (i.e. fulfillment) in our water baptism. (Col.2:10-11, Rom.2:28-29,
Deut.10:6, Jer.4:4, Acts.15:5;21:21)
It is still a serious matter and it is
a command. (Matt.28:19) As in circumcision, we receive our "family"
name (Eph.3:14-15) at our water baptism. (Matt.28:19, Acts.2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5)
God has not changed, neither has the pattern requiring His name to be recorded. "Where I record my name
I will come unto the, and I will bless thee." (Exod.20:24, Matt.18:20, Col.3:17) "Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus..."
The "blueprint" calls for circumcision and the name given.
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us
When Jesus came, He was the innocent lamb without blemish sacrificed for us. (1Cor.5:7-8, 1Peter.1:18-20) because the "blueprint" calls for it. The pattern did not change! It began with God making "coats of skins" to cover Adam and Eve's nakedness (Gen.3:21, Heb.4:12-13) and Abel offering one of the "firstlings (a lamb) of his flock" to sacrifice. (Gen.4:1-4, Heb.11:4, 1John.3:12) This pattern continued through Noah, (Gen.8:2-21) Abraham (Gen.12:12) and incorporated into the Law of Moses which brings us to Christ,1 (Gal.3:24) our Passover to be sacrificed for us.
No leaven to be found in our houses
When Paul was bringing Church discipline to the Corinthians, he used the feast of unleavened bread (Exod.12:15-20, Lev.23:6) as his foundation. (1Cor.5:1-13) Leaven is a type of the sinful wickedness of man (Matt.8:5; 16:11-12, Luke.12:1, 1Cor.5:7, Gal.5:9) Today the pattern continues according to the "blueprint" of the Old Testament types and shadows. No leaven of malice, wickedness, hypocrisy, compromise, legalism, false doctrine is to be found in our house individually (1Cor.6:19, 2Peter.1:13) or house corporately. (1Tim.3:15)
The Priesthood continues in the New Testament
The New Testament writers interprets the Church, the Body of Christ, the believer to be the Priesthood today. (1Peter.2:5-9, Rev.1:6; 5:10) Hebrews says, the Levitical priesthood is a "shadow" of the "true Tabernacle that the Lord pitched and not man." (Heb.8:1-5; 9:1-26) This means the pattern of the Priesthood continues in it's reality, in us the
Church today. When Paul wrote "Christ is the end of the Law," i.e. Priesthood (Rom.10:4) he was not saying that the Law is no longer relevant (Acts.1:3, Luke.24:1-45) because we are under the New Testament of Grace. He was saying that Christ is the end of the "shadow" of the Levitical priesthood, (Heb.9:10) but the Law of the priesthood continues in it's fulfillment (completion, reality Matt.5:17-19, Rom.3:21-31, Acts.28:23 / Rom.16:25-26).
________________________
Note: Now the Levitical priesthood becomes the pattern for our daily job description before the Lord.
The office of High Priest continues in the New Testament
There is still a High Priest needed in the New Covenant. This pattern has not changed. Jesus is our High Priest today! (Heb.3:1) It is impossible to understand what Jesus is doing while sitting at the Father's right hand without a study of what Aaron the high priest did in the Tabernacle of Moses.
No blemishes where to found in the high priest
There will be a "glorious church...without blemish." (Eph.5:27, 2Peter.2:13,) This will be the Bride of Christ, that is "like Him.(1John.3:2) Those that have come "unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." i.e. "our High Priest" (Eph.4:13, 1Peter.1:19, Heb.3:1) God's standards and patterns (i.e. blueprint) have not changed, they continue in their reality.
Offering sacrifice continues
You are a "holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." (1Peter.2:5) We are to present ourselves as a "living sacrifice." (Rom.12:1-2) Giving is a
"a sweet smell, a sacrifice." (Phil.4:18) The "fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name...with such sacrifices God is well pleased." (Heb.13:15-16) It is plain to see that Jesus is building His Church (Matt.16:18, Gal.1:11-12, 1Cor.3:10-15) according to the blueprint of the Old Testament patterns. (Heb.10:1)
The priests had responsibility for offering
Only the priests were qualified to offer sacrifice. (Num.1:47-54) The "stranger" (foreigner, alien) would be put to death if they offered sacrifice, for they would "pollute" the "holy things" of God. (Neh.7:63-65, Num.1:47-54) This pattern continues in the New Testament! Those that refuse Christ are "strangers." (Eph.2:1-19) As in the 1st. century Church there are those today that the have "crept in unawares,"(Jude.1:1:4, 10-13, 2Peter.2:2-3:14) "strangers" and not priests, offering sacrifice unto the Lord. These are "tares" amongst the wheat. (Matt.13:24-30, 36-43) There is coming a day when God shall remove the "tares" from the Church.
The Altar of Sacrifice continues
When Jesus said He would "build" His Church, (Matt.16:18) He included the Altar of Himself (Heb.13:10) because this was according to the pattern.(i.e. blueprint, type, shadow, model, ensample) This was "the apostles doctrine" that the 1st. century Church "continued steadfastly" in. (Acts.2:41-42, [Luke.24:44-45 / Note: Acts.1:3 "pertain] Gal.1:11-12) The blueprint reveals that the only place for sacrifice, was upon the Altar that was in the Tabernacle of Moses. (Lev.17:1-11) Only the priests could offer sacrifice. (Num.1:47-54) This is how the Church is to be built. All our "spiritual sacrifices" must come through the Lord Jesus Christ, (1Peter.2:5,9) in the "true Tabernacle that the Lord pitched and not man," (Heb.8:1-5) and only those who are "born" (John.3:1-7) into the priesthood of believers can offer sacrifice.
Don't change the blueprint! "Take heed how" you build, for ":Every mans work...shall be revealed by fire (Jer.23:29, Isa.4:4, Matt.3:11-12. God's Word)...and the fire shall try (Psa.105:19) every man's work of what sort it is." (1Cor.3:10-15)
The Sweet Smelling Savor in the Offerings continues.
When Noah "went forth' from the Ark, he "builded an Altar unto the Lord;.." and offered burnt oferrings. "And the Lord smelled a sweet savor; and...said in His heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake." (Gen.8:20-22)
1. All five of the Levitical offerings were to have a sweet smelling savor. "and the priest shall burn
all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord."
(Lev 1:9-10; 2:2, 9, 12)
God rejected the offerings of the House of Israel, and would not smell their offerings because
of their rebellion against His Word. God said, "I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell
in your solemn assemblies. Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not
accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. (Amos 5:21-23) They had
the "form" of godliness, but not the lifestyle.
2. As a Royal priesthood (1Peter.2:9, Rev.1:6: 5:10) we are to offering up spiritual sacrifices
(1Peter.2:5) These spiritual offerings are the fulfillment (completion) of the five Levitical offerings
foreshadowed in the Law of Moses. (Review: The Five Levitical Offerings for details)
a. The Sin Offering - Our Salvation
b. The Trespass Offfering - Our trespassses and faults towards one another after salvation
c. The Burnt Offering - Our Consecration and separation unto God after Salvation
d. The Meal Offering - Our good works and giving of material things
e. The Peace Offering - Our worship and praise
There still needs to be that "sweet smelling savor" in each of these offerings, which is the
Lord Jesus Christ. "Christ..hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a
sweetsmelling savour." (Eph.5:1-2)

Note How many times the New Testament writes build upon
the Old Testament
1. Creation. Light from darkness. (Gen.1:1-2, 2Cor.4:6)
2. Jesus is called the "last Adam." (Gen.2:18, 1Cor.15:45-46)
3. The Bride of Christ is called, "Eve." (2Cor.11:3
4. The first marriage is used to explain Christ and His Church. (Eph.5:21-33)
5. The serpent is the devil. (Gen.3:1-3, Rev.12:9)
6. Cain and Abel used to explain the correct offering unto God. (Gen.4:1-4, Heb.11:4, 1John.3:11)
7. Enoch was used to confirm the Second Coming. (Jude.1:14)
8. The example of Noah used to explain the last days. (Luke.17:26, Heb.11:7, 2Peter.3:1-9)
Note: Stephens sermon (inspired of the Holy Spirit) began with Abraham and ended with
Solomon's Temple because this is the typical journey that the Church is about to complete!

9. Abraham and Sarah. (1Peter.3:1-6)
10. Isaac, the "only begotten son" of Abraham. (Heb.11:17, Gal.4:28)
11. Ishmael who mocked the "only begotten" son, Isaac. (Gal.4:21-31, Gen.21:1-11)
12. Esau despised his firstborn birthright. (Rom.9:10-14, Gen..25:19-34)
13. Jacob / Israel used as an "ensample" (type) of how God leads the Church today. (1Cor.10:1-11)
14. The Red Sea is used to explain water baptism. (1Cor.10:1-3)
15. The Cloud is used to explain Holy Spirit baptism. (1Cor.10:1-3)
16. Mt. Sinai is used by the apostle Paul to explain about earthly Jerusalem. (Gal.4:25, Heb.12:22)
17. The Tables of Stone are used to explain about our "fleshly tables" (Exod.19-40, 2Cor.3:1-18)
18. The High Priest is used to explain Christ's ministry at God's right hand. (Heb.8-9)
19. The Priesthood is used to explain our ministry unto Christ, our High Priest. (1Peter.2:5-9)
20. The wilderness wanderings are used to explain the timetable of God. (Heb.3-4)
21. The Heroes of faith are used to encourage our Christian walk. (Heb.11)
22. The Tabernacle of David is used to explain the position of 1st. century Church. (Acts.15:1-18)
23. The Temple is used to explain the ultimate purpose for the Church. (Eph.2:1-22; 3:1-12)
24. The apostle Paul uses the Altar and Oxen to explain about giving of material things to those
that preach the Gospel. (1Cor.9:1-14) There are many more examples still to be listed
The Prophets used this language to speak to us, the Church, the Bride of Christ. (Rom.16:25-26, 1Cor.2:7, 1Peter.1:10-12, Acts.3:19-25) It is plain to see, that the Spirit of God considers the Old Testament (Covenant) important and vital to our New Testament (Covenant) walk before the Lord.
Conclusion:
The Old Testament (Covenant) is not exclusively for the Jews (i.e. "the children of the flesh of Abraham Rom.9:7-8) The Old Testament Covenant is a "blueprint" (model, type, shadow, sketchy outline) of God's one purpose and plan which is His eternal purpose the Church! (Eph.3:1-12) To present The "last" Eve to the "last Adam" Jesus., and continue on from where they fell from.
