Is there a "Day of Christ" and the "Day of the Lord?"

(Note: It is neccessary to chart this in order to explain why it is in correct)
The Day of the Lord
When the Old Testament writers spoke of the "Day of the Lord," they were prophesying about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
1. The prophets spoke of the first and second coming of Christ
They had the future promise that the "seed" of the woman would "bruise" the heel of the
serpent. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her
seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (Gen.3:15-16, Gal.3:16,
Rom.16:20)
a. The First Coming
(1) Jacob. "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
until Shiloh come; (Jesus, Messiah) and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."
(Gen.49:10-11)
(2) Moses. "A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto
me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to
pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the
people." (Acts.3:22-24, Note: Rom.10:18-21)
(3) Isaiah. "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." (Isa.7:14-1
b. The Second Coming
(1) Isaiah. " the day of vengeance of our God..." (Isa.61:2-3)
(2) Joel. "Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the
Almighty shall it come." (Joel.1:15-16)
(3) Joel. "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great
and the terrible day of the Lord come." (Joel.2:31)
(4) Malachi. " Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and
dreadful day of the Lord." (Mal.4:5)
2. All they knew was the Lord our God is one Lord.
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." (Deut.6:4-5) They did not understand
mystery of Christ. They did not know about "Word" becoming flesh, (John.1:1-14) and His
name would be called "Jesus." (Matt.1:18-25)
a. Paul says it was not made known
If "ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you ward:
How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which
in other ages (generations) was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now
revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit." (Eph.3:2-5, 1Peter.1:10-12)
b. The tri-une nature of God was revealed by Jesus
(1) Jesus "answered them, (the Jews, the children of the flesh of Abraham Rom.9:1-9) My
Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him,
because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father,
making himself equal with God." (John.5:17-18)
(2) Jesus said, "When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth...for
he shall receive of mine, (Jesus) and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father
hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you."
(John.16:13-17)
(3) Jesus said, "Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." (Matt.28:19-20)
Note: God's revelation of Himself goes from "glory to glory." (2Cor.3:1-18)
"For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line;
here a little, and there a little." (Isa.28:10-11, Exod.6:1-3, John.16:12-15 [Note: The
Book of Acts] Eph.3:1-5, Heb.5:11)
Jesus came and was made both Lord and Christ
"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom
ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts.2:36-37) The name of The Lord Jesus Christ
is throughout Acts and the Epistles. (Rom.1:7; 5:1, 1Cor.1:3, 2Cor.1:2, Gal.1:3, Eph.1:2, Phil.1:2, Col.1:2, 1Thes.1:1, 2Thes.1:1, 1Tim.1:1, 2Tim.1:1, Titus.1:4, Philem.1:3, Jam.1:1, 1Pet.1:3, 2Pet.1:2, 2John.1:3, Jude.1:4, Rev.22:21)
1. In the beginning was the Word.
a. In "the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The
same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not
any thing made that was made." (John.1:1-3, Col.1:14-18, Heb.1:1-3)
b. For "there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one." (1John.5:7-8)
2. The Word was made flesh
a. The "Word was made flesh, (Matt.1:18-25) and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John.1:14-15)
b. Let "this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus Who, being in the form of God,
thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took
upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in
fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of
the cross." (Phil 2:5-9)
3. The Word was called "Jesus"
Mary and Joseph was told to call "his (The Word) name JESUS: for he shall save his people
from their sins." (Matt.1:21-22)
4. Jesus / Word became "the Christ'
a. At the river Jordan, Jesus became the "Christ' (the anointed one, the Messiah) He (Andrew)
first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is,
being interpreted, the Christ." (John.1:41-42)
b. Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." (Matt.16:16-18)
5. Jesus / Word / became "Lord"
When Jesus had been resurrected (Matt.28:1-8, Mark.16:1, Luke.24:1, John.20:1) and
Glorified, (John.7:38-39, Acts.1:1-5; 2:1-17) He was made "Lord" Peter said, "Therefore let
all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have
crucified both Lord and Christ. (Acts.2:36-37) Now Jesus is "The Lord Jesus Christ."
The Day of Christ
Therefore, when the New Testament writers spoke of the "Day of Christ" (2Thes.2:1) they were not speaking of a two stage coming! There were speaking of one Second Coming of The Lord Jesus Christ, which is confirmed by the apostle Paul when writing to the Thessalonian Church.
(2Thes.2:1-8)
1. Note how the New Testament writers wrote of the Second Coming
a. "So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord
Jesus Christ." (1Cor.1:7-9)
b. "To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our
Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all (1Thes.4:13-18, 2Thes.2:1)
his saints." (1Thes.3:13-4:1)
c. The "very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and
body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1Thes.5:23,
2Thes.2:2-3, 1Tim.6:14, 2Peter.1:16)
Note: Paul who was "taught...by the revelation of Jesus Christ," (Gal.1:12-13) and Peter
who was given "the keys of the kingdom of heaven," (Matt.16:19-20) placed "Lord" and
Christ" together when indentifying the Second Coming of Christ.
2. There are two Greek words used for "coming."
Some see a distinction of the "day of Christ" and the "day of the Lord" in these two Greek words.
The word "parousia" NT:3952 KJV - coming, presence. (Matt.24:3, 27, 37, 39, 1Cor.15:23,
1Thes.2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23, 2Thes.2:1, 8, Jam.5:7-8, 2Peter.3:4, 12, 1John.2:28) is thought to
be the secret coming of Christ for His Church, and the word "Erchomai" NT:2064 KJV -
(Matt.16:28; 24:30; 24:64) is thought to be His public Coming to this earth.
.
The apostle Paul (who was taught by Jesus Gal.1:11-12) declares that Jesus will destroy the
antichrist (2Thes.2:8) with the brightness of His coming. ("Parousia") This only happens at the
end of the Tribulation. There is no evidence for a two stage coming. It is The Day of the Lord
Jesus Christ.
