What was the purpose of this prophecy? There would be seven weeks to restore and build Jerusalem Then there would be a 62 week (434 year) wait until Messiah After 434 years (62 weeks), Messiah shall be cut off When was Jesus crucified? ("cut off") And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary The HIstorical record confirms Daniel's prophetic Word. After Jesus was "cut off" (crucified "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.(Dan 9:27) Some interpret this to be the antichrist who makes a seven year covenant with the Jews, however the subject of these seventy weeks is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Messiah! 1. The word "confirm" (Dan.9:27) 3. The entire seven years (70th. week) is for confirmation. (Note: Some may be wondering where the remaining 3 ½ years of confirmation will take place. <script type="text/JavaScript"
Daniel was told, "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish
the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring
in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." (Dan 9:24-25) These are all included in the confirmation of v.27!
1. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city.
Daniel's people were the Jews (The House of Judah Gen.12:1-3; 15:1-21; 17:1-21; 35:11-12
/ 32:28; 49:1-27 [v.9], 1Kings.11:1-40; 2Kings.17:18-23, 2Chron.36:1-21 [Jer.29:10]
Dan.1:1-7) Once again it is a word to Jerusalem not about the kingdoms of this world.
(Dan.8:11-13; 10-11)
a. These Seventy Weeks are not 49 twenty four hour days
Seventy Weeks (i.e. 49 twenty four hour days) have come and gone since Daniel
prophesied these words, and transgression has not stopped. (Dan.9:24) Sin has not
ended, (Dan.9:24) Reconciliation for iniquity had not yet been made by Jesus on the Cross.
(Dan.9:24, Eph.2:6, Col.1:20) Everlasting righteousness has not been brought in. (Dan.9:24)
The vision and prophecy has not been seal up, (Dan.9:24) and the most Holy has not been
anointed yet. (Dan 9:24-25) "What does Gabriel mean by "Seventy Weeks?"
(1) God works in patterns of "sevens" (weeks)
(a) The week of creation. (Gen.1:1-31; 2:1-3)
(b) Every seventh day (once a week) Israel was to rest. (Exod.16:22-26)
(c) The Feast days were celebrated within a group of seven months. (Lev.23:1-44)
This would be a "week" (seven) months.
(d) Every seventh year Israel was to let the land rest. (Lev.25:1-7) This would be
a "week" (seven) of years.
(e) Israel was to count forty-nine years (7 groups of weeks) and rest the next year.
(Lev.25:8-17)
(2) Israel understood the day for a year principle
(a) Jacob worked for Laban seven years (i.e. one week Gen.29:27-28) in order
to marry Rachel. (A day for a year)
(b) Ezekiel prophesied against the city of Jerusalem while laying on his side for 390
days for the Israel and 40 days for the house of Judah. "each day for a year"
(Eze.4:1-6) Note this is 430 days. Gen.15:13, Gal.3:17
(c) Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. It was a year for each day.
(Num.14:33-35)
b. These "Seventy Weeks" are 490 years.
A question has been asked, "Why are these not "a thousand year a days?" (2Peter.3:1-9,
Psa.90:4) The answer is, that it would be 69 weeks (i.e. 6900 A.D.) until Messiah if these
were a thousand year days. (Dan.9:25) Obviously this does not fit because this is only the
year 2010 A.D., and the Historical fact is that Jesus did come as the Messiah 483 years
(69 weeks) later just as Daniel prophesied. (Dan.9:25)
3. Seventy weeks to finish the transgression. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, (490 yrs) we must show where transgression
finishes, because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks.
a. Transgression
The word "transgression" is to revolt (attempt to overthrow the authority). It has been
translated in the K.J.V. as rebellion, sin and trespass.
b. To Finish
To "finish" is also translated in the K.J.V. as, forbid, keep (back), refrain, restrain, retain,
shut up, be stayed, and withhold.
(1) Lucifer (Satan, the devil) began the transgression. (Isa.14:12-15, Eze.28:11-17)
(2) This continued through Adam and passed on to all men until our present day even
though Jesus paid the price (John.3:16, Eph.2:11-19, 1Cor.6:20) to redeem us back to
God. (Gen.3:1-15, Rom.5:12-21)
Transgression will not be finished until Jesus returns. (Phil.2:9-11,
Jude.1:14-15, Rev.1911-21; 20:13) The price was paid (1Cor.6:19-20) for
transgression at the Cross, but it has not stopped! It will not stop until Satan is put
in the bottomless pit (Rev.20:1-2) at the end of the sixth day when God will have
finished His work.
4. Seventy weeks are to make an end of sins. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, we must show where there is the end of sins,
because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks.
a. Jesus died for our sins and paid the penalty. (John.1:29, 2Cor.5:21)
b. However, sin has continued on and will not end until Christ returns and places the author
of sin (Satan) in the bottomless pit. (Rev.20:1-2)
5. Seventy weeks are determined to make reconciliation for iniquity. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, we must show where reconciliation for iniquity was
made, because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks. The key word is "made." Where
was reconciliation made?
a. Reconciliation was made for iniquity by Christ, our Passover, at the Cross. (Eph.2:11-19,
Rom.5:10, 2Cor.5:18)
b. However, iniquity is still continuing. (2Thes.2:7, Titus.2:14, Rom.6:19)
Remember this: The Cross MUST be part of
the seventy weeks!
6. Seventy weeks are to bring in everlasting righteousness. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, we must show where everlasting righteousness is
brought in, because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks. This will be after Jesus
returns and the Millennium, (the 1000 year rest) begins. Sin will have ended and "righteousness"
will reign. (Rev.20:1-4)
7. Seventy weeks are to seal up the vision and prophecy. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, we must show where the vision and prophecy are
sealed (i.e. closed) up, because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks.
a. Seal up "the book"
Daniel was told to seal up the book until the time of the end, because the vision and prophecy
was not finished yet. (Dan.12:4, 8-9)
b. The sealed "book" opened
Then, John saw that sealed book opened (Rev.5:1-14; 6:1) and the vision and prophecy
finishing at the sound of the seventh trumpet. (Rev.10:7, Acts.3:20-21) This is the Second
Coming, the return of The Lord Jesus Christ. (Rev.11:15) "The stone...cut out of the mountain
without hands." (Dan.2:45)
8. Seventy weeks are determined to anoint the most Holy. (Dan.9:24)
In our interpretation of these seventy weeks, we must show where the most Holy is anointed,
because this is part of the purpose of the seventy weeks.
a. What is the most Holy? (Click here for detail of chart)
The most Holy was where God's presence
dwelt in the Tabernacle of Moses. There
were two rooms in the Tabernacle
building, the Holy place and the most
Holy place. In the most Holy was the Ark
of the covenant where God's presence
dwelt, above the mercy seat between
the two cherubims. (Exod.25:8-22)
b. There were three structures that
housed God's presence.
The Tabernacle of Moses, the Tabernacle of David and Solomon's Temple. These all
incorporated the Ark of the Covenant (God's presence) making that room most Holy. Gabriel is
saying that this room (the Most Holy) will be anointed.
c. What does Gabriel mean by "anointed?"
To be anointed in the Old Testament pattern, was to have oil poured upon the head.
(Exod.30:22-33 /Note:v.32, Lev.8:12 / Psa.133:2) This foreshadowed the anointing of the
Holy Spirit (Psa.45:7 /Heb.1:9, Acts.10:38, 45) in the Church today. (Acts.1:4; 2:1-17, 38;
8:17; 9:17; 10:44-48; 19:1-6. Review: "Candlestick" - Phase 4. page.1 of 3) In the pattern of
the Tabernacle of Moses, to the Tabernacle of David, to Solomon's Temple, the anointing was
required to make each vessel functional. (Exod.40:1-38) Kings placed in authority with the
anointing oil. (1Sam.10:1; 16:13; 1Kings.1:39 / 1Peter.2:5-9, Rev.1:6; 5:10)
To summarize "anointed."
To anoint the most Holy in the New Testament, end-time setting is to make it functional
(make it operate). After the Tabernacle was finished, Moses set everything in it's place and
anointed every piece of furniture, (Exod.40:1-33) "Then a cloud covered the tent of the
congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle," (Exod.40:34) and it began to
function.
d. What and where is the most Holy today?
At the time of Daniel's prophecy (Dan.9:1-2) God's Glory cloud had "departed" (Eze.10:18)
from the most Holy, and Solomon's Temple had been burned with fire during the Babylonian
captivity. (2Chron.36:19) After the Babylonian captivity, the House of Judah was set free to
"restore and to build Jerusalem" (Dan.9:25, 2Chron.36:22, Ezra.1:1-4) and the Temple.
(Ezra.1-10, Neh.1-13) However, this Temple continued to be desolated and trodden under
foot (Dan.8:1-13; 10-11) during the time of Greece and the four hundred year silence
between the Old and New Testaments. Herod rebuilt this Temple before Jesus came but it
never became most Holy unto Lord. In fact Jesus called it their house (i.e. The Temple in
Jerusalem) and prophesied it would be left desolate (Matt.23:36, Dan.9:26) just as Daniel
prophesied it would be. It was no longer God's House where His name was recorded,2 it was
now "their" house under "their" name. (Matt.24:1-2, 15-22) God further demonstrated that
He had left the Temple when He "rent in twain" the veil "from top to bottom" (Matt.27:51-52)
revealing the His presence had gone from the most Holy.3
History confirms this. In 70 A.D. the Temple was destroyed and it has never been built back.
There is no Temple today!
Yet Daniel prophesied the Most Holy would be anointed?

Some teach that the Temple will be rebuilt again. However if that happens, it would not
be the Temple of God, because "the Most High dwelleth not in temples made with
hands" (Acts.7:48) i.e. Solomon's Temple. (Note: Solomon's Temple incorporated all the
pattern of the Tabernacle of Moses which was only a "figure1 for the time then present.
These structures. (Tabernacle of Moses and Solomon's Temple) in which were offered both
gifts and sacrifices...could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the
conscience;" They stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal
ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (i.e. until the time that
Christ came. The true, or the the fulfillment of what these structures foreshadowed.
Heb 9:9-11)
When Jesus came, He said I am the Temple now. (John.1:11; 2:18-20) I am the
fulfillment of all the Law and the Prophets. (Matt.5:17-19) Jesus ministered for three and a
half years, was crucified, buried and rose again and became the head of the Church which is
His Body (Eph.1:22-23, Col.1:18) This identifies the Church to be the Temple of God.
(1Cor.6:19, Eph.2:20-22, 1Peter.2:5)
Conclusion: The anointing of the most Holy must have it's fulfillment in God's eternal purpose,
(Eph.3:1-12) the Church. The following is my belief. At the "consummation" (Dan.9:27) the
end (the Second Coming) God will ushering in (i.e. make functional) the 1000 year rest, the
Millennium. This is where "we will live in His sight." (Hosea.6:2) The thousand year rest is the
anointing of the "Most Holy."

The Seventy Weeks are 490 years
This day for a year principle was easily understood by the Hebrew mind. God spoke throughout the Law in patterns of sevens. The Hebrew word for "week" is "seven." It could be said the "seventy of sevens are determined upon thy people."
1. Israel was told every seventh day to rest. (Exod.20:9-10)
This was important to God, and it carried serious consequences if the Sabbath was not
observed. (Num.15:32-36) Today it is equally serious to the Lord. If we fail to enter into His
rest (Heb.3:1-19; 4:1-11) we can miss what God is saying and doing in the Church in these
last days.

2. Israel celebrated the Feasts within a 7 month period of time
They were to count seven Sabbaths (weeks) complete and then on the morrow after the
Sabbath celebrate the feast of harvest or weeks. (Lev.23:1-21 a week of weeks)
3. Israel was to work the Land for six years and let the Land rest the seventh year.
(Lev.25:1-22) Then every 50th. year they were also to let the Land rest. This means they had
two years of continuous rest for the Land. Unfortunately, "the Church in the wilderness" failed
to keep this pattern. (Note: This is why God allowed Judah to go into the Babylonian captivity
for 70 years "until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept
sabbath, to fulfill threescore and ten years." (2Chron.36:21, Jer.29:10)

2. Other examples of a day for a year principle
a. Jacob worked for Laban seven years in order to marry Rachael. (Gen.29:21-30)
b. The Prophet Ezekiel prophesied against the city of Jerusalem while laying on his side for
390 days for the Israel of Israel and 40 days for the house of Judah. "each day for a year"
(Eze.4:1-8)
c. Israel (The "Church in the wilderness" Acts.7:38) wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.
It was a year for each day. (Num.14:33-35)
The "Seventy Weeks" begins with the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and
to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times." (Dan 9:25-26)
1. Daniel was looking ahead to the finish of their captivity
The seventy years was a discipline from God for their disobedience, (2Chron.36:21, Jer.29:10,
1Kings.11:39, Note: Heb.12:6) because they had not let the Land rest every seventh year,
(Lev.25:1-7) and every fiftieth year (Lev.25:8-55) Now the House of Judah was about to be
released from a seventy year captivity to the Babylonian Empire. (Dan.9:1-2, Jer.29:8-11)
2. The building of the City and Sanctuary was to be a "landmark"
Israel could actually calculate the time when Jesus (The Messiah) would come by Daniel's
prophecy. The evidence of this seen in the example of Andrew and Simon, Peter's brother.
(John.1:40-41) They said "we have found the Messiah." The Woman at the well said to Jesus,
"I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things."
(John.4:25)

"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times." (Dan 9:25-26)
1. The going forth of the commandment to restore
Now "in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of
Jeremiah might be fulfilled, (Jer.29:10, 2Chron.36:21) the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus
king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing,
saying, Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms
of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah."
(Ezra.1:1-3)
2. The time given to restore and build
There were seven weeks (49 years) to restore and build Jerusalem during the time of Media-
Persia. (Dan.9:25, Ezra.7:11-27; 9:9) This was "even in troublous times" just Daniel
prophesied there would be. (Dan.9:25, Review the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah)

"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks"
(Dan 9:25) Jesus became the Messiah (the anointed one) at the river Jordan where Andrew, Simon Peter's brother said, "we have found the Messias, (i.e. Messiah) which is, being interpreted, the Christ." (John 1:40-42) This was later confirmed by the woman at the well that "saith unto him, (Jesus) I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee I am he. (John 4:25-26)
1. IMPORTANT POINT! Gabriel interprets Jesus to be part of the 70 weeks
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to
build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two
weeks."(Dan 9:25)
a. When Gabriel said after, "seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks,"(Dan 9:25)
he confirms that Jesus (The Messiah) is included in these 70 Weeks.
b. This is an "infallible" interpretation. (2Tim.3:16, 2Peter.1:21)
Messiah is part of the 70 Weeks!
"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined." (Dan 9:26-27) Now 69 weeks (483 years) have been accounted for. Therefore, Jesus (Messiah) being "cut off" is part of the last week, i.e. seven years! Why? because this last week (7 years) is all that remains of the 70 weeks. "Messiah" being "cut off" cannot be separated from the purpose of the Seventy weeks that "are determined upon thy (Daniel's) people." (Dan.9:24)
1. The Prophet Isaiah
Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be "cut off" out of the land of the living. (Isa.53:8,
John.19:20)
2. The Prophet Daniel
Daniel prophesied that Messiah would be cut off, but not for Himself. (Dan.9:26) Jesus was
"cut off" for our sin. "For He (God, the Father) hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew
no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." (2Cor.5:21)

Jesus was crucified (i.e. "cut off"- Dan.9:26) three and a half years after He became the Messiah at the river Jordan. (John.1:29-42) The evidence for this is found in the number of Passover Feasts that Jesus celebrated before Jesus was sacrificed as the true Passover Lamb. (John.2:13-25; 5:1; 19:1-30 / 1Cor.5:7-8)

"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined." (Dan 9:26-27) It should noted, it is "the people of the prince." Many quote this as the prince that should come, when it is "the people." (Note: By reading this prophecy without any interpretation it is plain to see that Gabriel is speaking of a group of the people. (The people of the prince) and a single person, Messiah the prince.) Remember this.

to bring reconciliation for iniquity), the City and the Sanctuary was made desolate (destroyed) by
the Roman Army ("the people of the prince") Titus in 70 A.D. Not one stone was left upon another, exactly how Jesus said it would happen. (Matt.23:37-38; 24:1-2, Luke.21:6)
1. There was a flood of military power ("the people of the prince") that came and destroyed the
city and the sanctuary (Temple) 70 A.D. A million Jews were killed and Ninety-five thousand
captives.
2. No Christians killed or taken captive because they took heeded the warning from Jesus
and fled to Pella. (Matt.24:15-22) Note: The warnings In Dan.7, 8, 11 all were centered around
Jerusalem and warning those of God's people that had an ear to hear.
3. Cestius Gallus 66 A.D. hastened from Syria and seized Jerusalem and captured the third
wall, and burned the suburb of Bezetha. Afterwards he panicked and retreated.
4. Vespasian 67 A.D. continued on but was recalled when Nero died and Titus completed
the destruction. ( WW Patterson, Bible Treasures - Daniel and Revelation)
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week

The word "confirm" means to be strong; by implication to prevail.4 It has been translated into
the KJV as exceed, confirm, be great, be mighty, prevail, put to more [strength] strengthen, be
stronger, and be valilant. This is not making a new covenant, it is only making the already
established covenant strong, and cause it to prevail mightily. This is the Covenant that God made
with "the fathers." (Rom.11:28, Rom.15:4, Gal.3:16-17) Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
2. Jesus (Messiah) is the only one that confirms "the" covenant with Daniel's people.
Daniel's people are the Jews, the House of Judah ("thy people" (Dan.9:24, Rom.11:28; 15:8,
Gal.3:16, John.1:11 / Matt.15:21-28) This is why Jesus "came unto His own." (John.1:11)
However, "His own recieved Him not" (John.1:11) because this confirmation included those
Gentiles (i.e. every other Nation besides the Jews) that believe on Christ. (Eph.2:1-19; 3:1-12)

"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall
cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease..." (Dan.9:27) Whoever "he" is he does not stop
confirming the covenant "in the midst of the week" (Dan.9:27) as the Pretribulation Rapture
doctrine teaches.

This will happen with the two witnesses Moses, (representing the Law) and Elijah, (representing
the Prophets.

The Tabernacle of Moses, which was incorporated into Solomon's Temple was also referred to as "figures." A corresponding ["antitype"], i.e. a representative, counterpart" - Strong's Greek Dictionary
2. God requires His name to be recorded. "in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee."(Exod.20:24,
Deut.12:5, 11; 14:23-24; 16:2, 6, 1Chron.22:10, 2Chron.2:1) God's name is now recorded on the Church, the Body of Christ. (Matt.28:19, Acts.15:17, Col.3:17, Matt.18:20)
3. The purpose of the Vail / Veil was to divide the Holy Place from the Most Holy. (Exod.26:33) Only Aaron the high priest could enter through the vail, once a year. (Heb.9:7, Lev.16:1-34) It meant certain death if for anyone else to enter. (Lev.1:1-2; 16:1-2) Therefore when the "veil" was rent from top to bottom, the Pharisees and Saduchees should have realized to the presence of God was gone. History tells us they repaired the veil, and continued on as usual offering animal sacrifices instead of trusting in the sinless blood of Christ. This abomination, God made desolate. 70 A.D.
