He shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Dan.9:27) The ceasing (or stopping) of the animal sacrifice and oblation (offerings) is part of the confirmation. The confirmation does not stop when the sacrifice and oblation stops! This is a pivotal point in our interpretation. 1. Animal sacrifices stopped at the Cross. 1. The word "overspreading" In the meanwhile this "abomination" will be devastated, stunned, wounded, stupefied The overspreading will continue until "the times of the "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Dan 9:27) Jesus "came unto his own" and confirmed three and a half years of the covenant that God made with "forefathers." They cut Him off in the "midst of the week" (i.e. after three and a half years) and continued with their animal sacrifices in the Temple. God made this abomination, (offering animal sacrifice) desolate 70 A.D. and made it (the desolation, astonishment)overspread until the consummation (end) This leaves three and a half years of the covenant still to be confirmed to the Jews. (Daniel's people) This will be done by the two witnesses, Moses (The Law) and Elijah (The Prophets). The Second coming completes the purpose of the Seventy Week Prophecy.
A Summary of Daniel's Visions and Prophecies Note: It was during this 434 year span of

Then "said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest
not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come
to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will
we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest
standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take
away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the
right hand of God; (Heb 10:7-13) Note: Heb.9:14-28

The overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate
Gabriel said (Dan.9:21) that "the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Dan.9:27)

Overspreading, means a edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a
garment or bed-clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle.1
2. The word "Abomination"
Abomination means disgusting, i.e. filthy; especially, idolatrous an idol.2 The context of
Israel's "abomination" (i.e. the disgusting, filthy, idolatrous thing) is identified for us as the
Jews rejection of Christ as the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb and continuing to trust in
animal sacrifices, "counting the Blood of the Covenant an unholy thing."
(Heb.10:28-29, Isa.66:1-3)
a. They (as a Nation) continued trusting in their own righteousness, (Rom.10:1-3, Isa.64:6)
which is as "...filthy rages..." (abomination, disgusting, filthy)
b. This brought God's vengeance.(Rom.12:19) Luke says, "these be days of vengeance" upon
Israel's "quarrel" against His Covenant. (Luke.21:22, Lev.26:25-33, Rom.11:20)
3. The word "Desolate"
Desolate means to ruin, to stun (or intrans. grow numb), i.e. devastate or (fig.) stupefy (both
usually in a passive sense).3
4. The word "Determined"
Determined is to point sharply, i.e. (lit) to wound; fig. To be alert, decide.
5. The word "Poured"
Poured is to flow (lit. or fig.); by implication to liquefy4 [become liquid, to melt a solid -
Webster]
To Summarize: After Jesus, the Messiah is "cut off," in the "midst of the week" causing the
sacrifice and oblation to cease, there shall be a period of time (i.e an overspreading) of that
disgusting, fitly, idolatrous thing. (i.e. rejecting Christ's atoning Blood) The overspreading of this
abomination will last until the consummation (or the end, the Second Coming), leaving no place
for it to happen again! (Remember this)

and lay in ruins. This has been the picture of Jerusalem since 70 A.D. until our present day.
Jesus spoke of the abomination of desolation spoken
by the prophet Daniel
When "ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand: Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt 24:15-22)
1. This was part of the answer to the disciples question on the Mt. of Olives
Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the
buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? (This was the
Temple before their very eyes Matt.23:37-39; 24:1-2) verily I say unto you, There shall not be
left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the
mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things
be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? (Matt 24:1-4)
a. Tell "us, when shall these things be?"
The context of the "these things" is the destruction of the Temple that they had just departed
from. The only part of Matt.24 that relates to this question is the destruction of the Temple
and the abomination of desolation. (Matt.24:15-22) Note: Don't make the mistake of
thinking that all of Matt.24 is fulfilled in the end times.
b. What "shall be the sign of thy coming?" (Matt.24:1-14)
c. and "of the end of the world?" (Matt.24:23-31)
The abomination of desolation spoken by the prophet Daniel is History to us!
2. Some think that Luke is speaking of another abomination of desolation yet to come.
For "these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe
unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great
distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and
shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles,
until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." (Luke 21:22-25) Luke is writing of the same
abomination of desolation as Matthew and Mark.
Compare Matt.24, Mark.13 and Luke.21
a. Not one stone left upon another
Jesus "was departing out of the Temple and speaking of not one stone would be left
upon another." (Matt.24:1-3, Mark.13:1-3, Luke.21:5-6)
b. The "disciples asked when shall these things be?"
(Matt.24:3, Mark.13:4, Luke.21:7)
c. The same three questions asked by the disciples in all three Gospels.
When shall these things be? What is the sign of thy coming? and the end of the world?
(Matt.24:3, Mark.13:4, Luke.21:7)
d. Abomination of desolation / Jerusalem compassed with armies
(1) Matthew and Mark records the answer as the "abomination of Desolation spoken by the
prophet Daniel." (Matt.24:15)
(2) Luke records it as "when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know
desolation thereof is nigh." (Luke.21:20) This is exactly what Daniel prophesied.
(Dan.9:26)
Look at these verses that follow
f. Then...flee into the mountains
"Then" (Matt.24:15, Mark.13:14, Luke.21:21) when you see the abomination of desolate,
armies compassed about Jerusalem) Judaea flee to the mountains.
g. Then let him on the house top
Let him on the house top not come down. (Matt.24:17, Mark.13:15, Luke.21:21)
h. Those that give suck
Woe to them that give suck "in those days." The abomination of desolation days / 70 A.D.
(Matt.24:19, Mark.13:17, Luke.21:23)
i. Pray
Pray that your flight be not in the winter. (Matt.24:20, Mark.13:18)
"For then (context: 70 A.D. The Abomination of Desolation) there shall be great
tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall
be." This is because there will not be another abomination of desolation, because it will
overspread "until the consummation." ( the end Dan.9:27) To have another abomination of
desolation there must be a Temple, that God will call His own and there must be the
reinstating of animal sacrifices that God will receive. God will not do this because He
would have to deny Himself and His Word! (2Tim.2:13, Heb.9:1-26; 10:1-30, Acts.7:47-48)
j. Except "those days be shortened" (Matt.24:22) Some think this is the "Great
Tribulation," however God has given the antichrist "power to continue forty two months"
(Rev.13:5) and there is no record of God shortening it. Mark says, "For in those days shall
be affliction" (Mark.13:19) Luke says, "for there shall be great distress in the land."
(Luke.21:23) The term, "the Great Tribulation" is man made and it is not scripture, even
though it is a time of great tribulation. Whenever the Word of God says "tribulation," it is not
always speaking of the "Great Tribulation." Sometimes it is speaking of everyday living
tribulations. (Matt.13:21, John.16:33, Acts.14:22, Rom.2:9; 5:3; 8:35; 12:12, 2Cor.1:4; 7:4,
1Thes.3:4, Rev.1:9; 2:9-10,22 ) Sometimes its speaking of end times. (Rev.7:14) The
context of Matt.24:21,29. Mark.13:24 is the tribulation of destruction of the city and
sanctuary in 70 A.D. .
___________________________________________________________________
Note: Throughout Daniel's Vision's Jerusalem has continued to be the center of activity.
(Dan.8:1-13,16-25; 9:24-27; 11:1-45) In the Tribulation, Jerusalem (i.e. "where our Lord
was crucified"- Rev.11:8) is still the center. Unfortunately it will be the center for the antichrist.
(Rev.11:7-8)
Gentiles be fulfilled."
"For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (Luke 21:22-24) Isaiah prophesied this would happen. "Esaias (Isaiah) is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. (Rom 10:19-11:1)

1. The "fullness" of the Gentiles (Nations, heathen)
For "I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in
your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness (repletion or
completion)5 or the full number of the of the Gentiles be come in." (Rom 11:25-26)
a. Note: This is the explanation why there is a "gap" in Daniel's visions
This time, is a time given to gather in the Gentiles (Nations, heathen) while the
overspreading of abomination is taking place.
b. The Gentiles coming in is part of God's eternal purpose
That "the Gentiles (i.e. every other Nation besides the Jews) should be fellowheirs, and of
the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel." (Eph.3:6)...And to
make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the
world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now
unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the
manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ
Jesus our Lord." (Eph 3:9-12)
c. The Prophet Hosea prophesied that the Gentiles would "come in."
As he saith also in Osee, (Hosea) I will call them my people, which were not my people;
and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it
was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living
God. (Rom 9:25-27, Hosea.1:10, 1Peter.2:5-10)
2. Jesus confirmed this
Jesus told the "chief priests and...elders" that the kingdom of God (would) be taken from
them, "and given to a nation (1Peter.2:5-9) bringing forth the fruits thereof." (Mat.21:23-43)
a. The apostles doctrine confirmed this
The apostle Paul says that God would "provoke (Israel) to jealousy by them that are no
people, (Eph.2:1-19) and by a foolish nation I will anger you. (Rom.10:19) "Wherefore
remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by
that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh (Jews) made by hands...
(1) Gentiles in the Covenants of Promise
The apostle writes to the Gentiles. You "were without Christ, being aliens from the
commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no
hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were
far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (Eph 2:11-14)
(2) Now the Gentiles are Abraham's seed.
"And [because] ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to
the promise. (Gal.3:29)
After the full number of Gentiles have come in, then the remainder of the Covenant is confirm to the Jews

1. "And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two
hundred and threescore days, [3½ years]6 clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees,
and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire
proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must
in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their
prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all
plagues, as often as they will." (Rev 11:3-7)
a. The two witnesses
These (two witnesses) "have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their
prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all
plagues, as often as they will." (Rev.11:6-7)
(1) One will be Elijah
Elijah shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: (James.5:17-18,
1Kings.17:1) Elijah represents the Prophets to Israel. (Mal.4:5, Matt.11:14; 16:14)
(2) The other witness will be Moses, the Law Giver
Moses had power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all
plagues, as often as they will." (Exod.7-12, Note: Exod.7:19) Moses represents the
Law. (Acts.3:22, Deut.18:15)
b. It was both Elijah and Moses that bore witnesses to Christ's transfiguration.
After six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an
high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun,
and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and
Elias (Elijah) talking with him." (Matt.17:1-6)
(1) Jesus said
Think "not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy,
but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall
in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matt.5:17-18) Jesus, (who brought grace
and truth John.1:17) agrees with the Law (Moses) and the Prophets,(Elijah) and they
agree (bear witness) with Jesus.
(a) Jesus said, "Many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things
which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and
have not heard them." (Matt.13:16-17)
(b) The reason is because "it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did
minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the
gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels
desire to look into." (1Peter.1:12-13)
(2) The apostle Paul who was taught by Jesus says
(a) The Law and the Prophets bear "witnesses" to the righteousness which is by faith of
Jesus Christ. (Rom.3:21-31, Gal.1:11-12)
(b) When "they had appointed him (Paul) a day, there came many to him into his
lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them
concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from
morning till evening." (Acts.28:23)
c. Israel (Daniel's people Dan.9:24) will only hear "Moses and the Prophets."
Abraham says, "they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he (the rich
man) said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he (Abraham) said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead." (Luke 16:29-31)
d. Moses and Elijah are prophesying for 1260 days,
And "I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two
hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth." (Rev.11:3)
(1) 1260 days is 42 months. (Rev.11:2)
(2) 1260 days is time, times and half a time. (Rev.12:6,14)
(3) 1260 days is time, times and dividing of times. (Dan.7:25)
Note: 1260 days divided by 42 months is 3½ years which happens to be the remaining
time left of the Covenant to be confirms to Daniel's people.
e. They were prophesying in Jerusalem
(1) Moses and Elijah were prophesying "where our Lord was crucified." (Rev.11:3, 8)
Jerusalem! The place where Jesus was cut off while confirming to first 3½ years of
the Covenant.
(2) Now it is understood what Moses and Elijah were prophesying. They were prophesying
about Jesus the Messiah and the New Covenant in His blood.
(3) This is where "if they (the Jews) abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in." (Rom.11:23)
Graffed into what? Graffed into the one and only purpose that God has had since the
beginning of the world. (Eph.2:1-22; 3:1-12)
Note: This 1260 days is also the same period of time that the antichrist has "power to
continued." (Rev.13:5)
This brings the balance of the Church and the Jews today.
God's purpose is His Church! However, God is a Covenant keeping God and there remains 3½ years of His Covenant (promise) to the "children of the flesh of Abraham." (Rom.9:1-33, John.8:56-59, Gal.3:1-29) Some see this as God going back to the Jews because they think that the Nation of Israel today is the real purpose of God.. They see the Church as some place to put all the redeemed Gentiles until the Pre-Tribulation Rapture, after which God will go back to His original purpose the "children of the flesh of Abraham." God is not "double minded," He has remained faithful to His Purpose from the beginning of the World. (Eph.3:1-12) Think about this. When Jesus (God manifest in the flesh) "came unto his own, and his own received him not." (John.1:11-12) They (His own) rejected Him because He came to build His Church. (Matt.16:18) Not the Jewish Temple or their Nation. (The Church is to include Jew and Gentile together in Christ Eph.2:1-22)
When the two witnesses have finished their testimony (confirming the remainder of the covenant), Jesus returns!
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth."(Rev.11:3) After they "have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them." (Rev 11:7-8) "After three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither...And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Rev 11:11-16)
(Review: Phase.10)
1. Moses and Elijah finish confirming the remaining 3½ years (1260 days, 42 months)
When "they shall have finished their testimony, of confirmation the Covenant to the Jews.
(Daniel's people - Dan.9:24) the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war
against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them." (Rev.11:7)
2. Then the seventh trumpet (the 3rd. Woe) came quickly (Review: Phase.10)
After the sixth trumpet (2nd. Woe) The Seventh trumpet (3rd. Woe) is the Second Coming.
There are only seven trumpets in the Book of Revelation. (Rev.8:2,6-13; 9:1-21; 10:7; 11:15)
This is the last of seven trumpets, making it the "last trump." (1Cor.15:51-52, 1Thes.4:13-18)
Note: John heard "a great voice, as of a trumpet," (Rev.1:10-13) which was Jesus talking to
him before he was given the order of last day events.]
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." (Dan 9:24-25)
Daniel is seeing a prophetic picture of events surrounding Jerusalem that lead to the first and second coming of the The Lord Jesus Christ (The Messiah)
1. Daniel begins with a overall
picture of the kingdoms of the world,
beginning with Babylon and the next
kingdom (Media-Persia) that would come
after. (Dan.2:31-45)
2. It was during the time of the kingdom of
Media-Persia that both Daniel and Jeremiah
prophesied that Jerusalem would be
restored. (Dan.9:25, 2Chron.36:21-22,
Ezra.1:1-4)
3. Daniel continues to prophecy that Media-
Persia will be defeated by the kingdom of Greece
(Daniel.8:1-13, 16-25) and warns Jerusalem that the sanctuary (Temple) would be desolated,
the daily sacrifice taken away and trodden7 under foot.
4. Then there would be a 434 year
(62 Week) wait until the revealing of
Jesus, the Messiah. (Dan.9:25) During
this wait there would be a "fourth kingdom"
(Rome) that would arise. (Dan.7:7) This
kingdom will be "dreadful and terrible,
"as "strong as iron." This was the ruling
power when Jesus came.
time synagogues came into being. The
Septuagint, the Books of the Apocrypha
were written and Herod rebuilt the Jews
Temple.
5. Jesus came unto His own to confirm the Covenant that God made with their fathers, but
Israel cut Him off in the "midst of the week." (i.e. after 3½ years)
6. When Jesus was "cut off" (crucified) He
caused the animal sacrifice and the
offerings to cease. (Dan.9:27,
Heb.10:1-10) Note: When Jesus was
crucified, the "veil of the Temple was rent
(ripped) in twain from top to bottom"
confirming that God's presence was
no longer there. God had moved out
never to return. (Matt.27:51, Acts.7:47-48,
1Peter.2:5-9)
7. Yet Israel continued to offer animal sacrifices
after Christ had shed His sinless blood. This
was an insult and "abomination" to God.
Therefore God made that "abomination" desolate. 70 A.D. God made this "abomination of
desolation" overspread until the consummation (i.e. the end)
8. Luke records that this "overspreading will last until "the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
(Luke.21:24) The apostle Paul writes, that this overspreading (blindness, hardness of heart) will
continue until the fullness (or the full number of the Gentles be brought in. (Rom.11:25)
9. When the "full number of the Gentiles"
are come in then, the remainder of the
Covenant will be confirmed by Moses
and Elijah. (Representing the Law and the
Prophets)
10. After the remainder of the Covenant is
confirmed to Israel, then...
a. Transgression will end
b. Sin will end,
c. Reconciliation for iniquity has already
been made at the Cross.
d. Everlasting righteousness will be
brought in, the vision and prophecy
complete, and the Most Holy becomes
anointed. (Dan.9:24)
Now the balance is seen why God is still in Covenant with the Jews because He is not finished confirming His promise that He made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This Covenant / Promise was the Messiah would come and redeem them. There is not a separate plan and purpose for the Jews and one for the Gentile. No, God has ONE plan and ONE purpose, and that is His eternal Church. (Eph.3:1-12)

6. 1260 days is three and a half years. (Rev.11:3; 12:6, 14, Dan.7:25) 30 days to a month. (Rev.11:2; 13:5)
7. This "trodden under foot" is NOT the same as Rev.11:1-2, and Luke.21:24 for the following reasons. (a) The context of Dan.8:13 is clearly "the latter time of" Greece. (Dan.8:23) (b) The context of Luke.21:24 is the 70 A.D. destruction of Jerusalem. (c) There is no reinstatement of animal sacrifices anywhere in the Book of Revelation. (d) The Temple of Rev.11:"1-2 is MEASURED not destroyed, as Dan.8:13 says. (e) In Rev.11:2, the holy city is trodden under foot and the outer court. The Temple was not touched. Dan.8:13 only the sanctuary is trodden under foot
