This is continued from Daniel's 70 Week Prophecy (Phase 5 of 12) Page.4 of 5
He shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Dan.9:27) The ceasing (or stopping) of the animal sacrifice and oblation (offerings) is part of the confirmation. The confirmation does not stop when the sacrifice and oblation stops! This is a pivotal point in our interpretation. 1. Animal sacrifices stopped at the Cross. "Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book 1. The word overspreading means a edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, In the meanwhile this "abomination" will be devastated, stunned, wounded, stupefied and lay in The overspreading will continue until "the times of the "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Dan 9:27) Jesus "came unto his own" and confirmed three and a half years of the covenant that God made with "forefathers." They cut Him off in the "midst of the week" (i.e. after three and a half years) and continued with their animal sacrifice in the Temple. God made this abomination, desolate 70 A.D. and made it overspread until the consummation (end) This leaves three and a half years of the covenant still to be confirmed to the Jews. (Daniel's people) This will be done by the two witnesses, Moses (The Law) and Elijah (The Prophets). The Second coming completes the purpose of the Seventy Week Prophecy.
A Summary of Daniel's Visions and Prophecies Note: It was during this 434 year span of time <script type="text/JavaScript"

it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt
offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are
offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that
he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body
of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes
the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one
sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; (Heb 10:7-13) Note: Heb.9:14-28

The overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate
Gabriel said (Dan.9:21) that "the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Dan.9:27)

(of a garment or bed-clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle.1
2. Abomination means disgusting, i.e. filthy; especially, idolatrous an idol.2
The context of Israel's "abomination" (i.e. the disgusting, filthy, idolatrous thing) is identified for us
as the Jews rejection of Christ as the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb and continuing to trust in
animal sacrifices, "counting the Blood of the Covenant an unholy thing." (Heb.10:28-29,
Isa.66:1-3) They (as a Nation) continued trusting in their own righteousness, (Rom.10:1-3,
Isa.64:6) which is as "...filthy rages..." (abomination, disgusting, filthy) This brought God's
vegence.(Rom.12:19) Luke says, "these be days of vegence" upon Israel's "quarrel" against
His Covenant. (Luke.21:22, Lev.26:25-33, Rom.11:20)
3. Desolate means to ruin, to stun (or intrans. grow numb), i.e. devastate or (fig.) stupefy (both
usually in a passive sense).3
4. Determined is to point sharply, i.e. (lit) to wound; fig. To be alert, decide.
5. Poured is to flow (lit. or fig.); by implication to liquefy4 [become liquid, to melt a solid -
Webster]
To Summarize: After Jesus, the Messiah is "cut off," in the "midst of the week" causing the
sacrifice and oblation to cease, there shall be a period of time (i.e an overspreading) of that
disgusting, fitly, idolatrous thing. (i.e. rejecting Christ's atoning Blood) The overspreading of this
abomination will last until the consummation (or the end, the Second Coming), leaving no place
for it to happen again! (Remember this)

ruins. This has been the picture of Jerusalem since 70 A.D. until our present day.
Jesus spoke of the abomination of desolation spoken
by the prophet Daniel
When "ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand: Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt 24:15-22)
1. This was part of the answer to the disciples question on the Mt. of Olives
Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the
buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto
you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us,
when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
(Matt 24:1-4)
a. "Tell us, when shall these things be?" (The context of the "these things" is the destruction
of the Temple that they had just departed from) The only part of Matt.24 that relates to this
question is the destruction of the Temple and the abomination of desolation. (Matt.24:15-22)
Note: Don't make the mistake of thinking that all of Matt.24 is fulfilled in the end times. The
abomination of desolation spoken by the prophet Daniel is History to us!
b. "What shall be the sign of thy coming?" (Matt.24:1-14)
c. "and of the end of the world?" (Matt.24:23-31)
2. Some think that Luke is speaking of another abomination of desolation yet to come.
For "these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe
unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great
distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and
shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles,
until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." (Luke 21:22-25) Luke is writing of the same
abomination of desolation as Matthew and Mark.
Compare Matt.24, Mark.13 and Luke.21
a. Jesus "was departing out of the Temple and speaking of not one stone would be left
upon another." (Matt.24:1-3, Mark.13:1-3, Luke.21:5-6)
b. The "disciples asked when shall these things be?"
(Matt.24:3, Mark.13:4, Luke.21:7)
c. The same three questions asked by the disciples in all three Gospels. When shall these
things be? What is the sign of thy coming? and the end of the world?
(Matt.24:3, Mark.13:4, Luke.21:7)
d. Matthew and Mark records the answer as the "abomination of Desolation spoken by the
prophet Daniel." (Matt.24:15)
e. Luke records it as "when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know
desolation thereof is nigh." (Luke.21:20) This is exactly what Daniel prophesied. (Dan.9:26)
Look at these verses that follow
f. Then ( when you see the abomination of desolate, armies compassed about Jerusalem)
Judaea flee to the mountains. (Matt.24:15, Mark.13:14, Luke.21:21)
g. Let him on the house top not come down. (Matt.24:17, Mark.13:15, Luke.21:21)
h. Woe to them that give suck "in those days." The abomination of desolation days / 70 A.D.
(Matt.24:19, Mark.13:17, Luke.21:23)
i. Pray that your flight be not in the winter. (Matt.24:20, Mark.13:18)
"For then (context: 70 A.D. The Abomination of Desolation) there shall be great
tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall
be." There will be not be another abomination of desolation.
To have another abomination of desolation there must be a Temple, that God will call His
own and there must be the reinstating of animal sacrifices that God will receive. God will
not do this because He would have to deny Himself and His Word! (2Tim.2:13)
j. Except "those days be shortened" (Matt.24:22) Some think this is the "Great Tribulation,"
however God has given the antichrist "power to continue forty two months" (Rev.13:5) and
there is no record of God shortening it. Mark says, "For in those days shall be affliction"
(Mark.13:19) Luke says, "for there shall be great distress in the land." (Luke.21:23)
The term, "the Great Tribulation" is man made and it is not scripture, even though it is a time
of great tribulation. Whenever the Word of God says "tribulation," it is not always speaking of
the "Great Tribulation." Sometimes it is speaking of everyday living tribulations. (Matt.13:21,
John.16:33, Acts.14:22, Rom.2:9; 5:3; 8:35; 12:12, 2Cor.1:4; 7:4, 1Thes.3:4, Rev.1:9; 2:9-
10,22 ) Sometimes its speaking of end times. (Rev.7:14) The context of Matt.24:21,29.
Mark.13:24 is the tribulation of destruction of the city and sanctuary in 70 A.D. .
___________________________________________________________________
Note: Throughout Daniel's Vision's Jerusalem has continued to be the center of activity.
(Dan.8:1-13,16-25; 9:24-27; 11:1-45) In the Tribulation, Jerusalem (i.e. "where our Lord
was crucified"- Rev.11:8) is still the center for the antichrist. (Rev.1-8)
Gentiles be fulfilled."
"For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. (Luke 21:22-24)

1. The "furness" of the Gentiles (Nations, heathen)
For "I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in
your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness (repletion or
completion)5 or the full number of the of the Gentiles be come in." (Rom 11:25-26)
This time, is a time given to gather in the Gentiles (Nations, heathen) while the overspreading
of abomination is taking place.
2. The Gentiles or the "foolish nation." A people who were not a people.
As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her
beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said
unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
(Rom 9:25-27, Hosea.1:10, 1Peter.2:5-10)
a. Jesus told the "chief priests and...elders" that the kingdom of God (would) be taken from them,
"and given to a nation (1Peter.2:5-9) bringing forth the fruits thereof." (Mat.23-43)
b. Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest
unto them that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my
hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. (Rom 10:19-11:1)
c. The apostle Paul says that God would "provoke (Israel) to jealousy by them that are no
people, (Eph.2:1-19) and by a foolish nation I will anger you. (Rom.10:19) "Wherefore
remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision
by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh (Jews)made by hands; That at that time
ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from
the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in
Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
(Eph 2:11-14) "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to
the promise. (Gal.3:29)
After the full number of Gentiles have come in, then the remainder of the Covenant is confirm to the Jews

1. "And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two
hundred and threescore days, [3 1/2 years]6 clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees,
and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire
proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must
in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their
prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all
plagues, as often as they will." (Rev 11:3-7)
a. Elijah. Power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: (James.5:17-18,
1Kings.17:1) Elijah represents the Prophets to Israel. (Mal.4:5, Matt.11:14; 16:14
b. Moses. Power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as
often as they will." (Exod.7-12, Note: Exod.7:19) Moses represents the Law.
(Acts.3:22, Deut.18:15)
c. It was both Elijah and Moses that bore witnesses to Christ's transfiguration.
(Matt.17:1-6) The apostle Paul says, the Law and the Prophets bear "witnesses" to the
righteousness which is by faith of Jesus Christ. (Rom.3:21-31)
d. Abraham told to rich man that Israel will only hear "Moses and the Prophets." (Luke.16:31)
e. Moses and Elijah are prophesying for 1260 days, "where our Lord was crucified." (Rev.11:3, 8)
Jerusalem! The place where Jesus was cut off.
Note: This 1260 days is also the same period of time that the antichrist has "power to
continued." (Rev.13:5)
When the two witnesses have finished their testimony (confirming the remainder of the covenant), Jesus returns
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth."(Rev.11:3) After they "have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them." (Rev 11:7-8) "After three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither...And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Rev 11:11-16)
1. Moses and Elijah finish confirming the remaining 3 1/2 years (1260 days, 42 months)
confirmation of the Covenant to the Jews. (Daniel's people - Dan.9:24)
2. Then the seventh trumpet (the 3rd. Woe) came quickly after the sixth trumpet (2nd. Woe) The
Seventh trumpet (3rd. Woe) is the Second Coming. There are only seven trumpets in the Book of
Revelation. (Rev.8:2,6-13; 9:1-21; 10:7; 11:15) This is the last of seven trumpets, making it the
"last trump." (1Cor.15:51-52, 1Thes.4:13-18)
Note: John heard "a great voice, as of a trumpet," (Rev.1:10-13) which was Jesus talking to
him before he was given the order of last day events.]
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Dan 9:24-25)
Daniel is seeing a prophetic picture of events surrounding Jerusalem that lead to the first and second coming of the The Lord Jesus Christ (The Messiah)
1. Daniel begins with a overall
picture of the kingdoms of the world,
beginning with Babylon and the next
kingdom (Media-Persia) that would come
after. (Dan.2:31-45)
2. It was during the time of the kingdom of
Media-Persia that both Daniel and Jeremiah
prophesied that Jerusalem would be
restored. (Dan.9:25, 2Chron.36:21-22,
Ezra.1:1-4)
3. Daniel continues to prophecy that Media-
Persia will be defeated by the kingdom of Greece
(Daniel.8:1-13, 16-25) and warns Jerusalem that the sanctuary (Temple) would be desolated, the
daily sacrifice taken away and trodden7 under foot.
4. Then there would be a 434 year
(62 Week) wait until the revealing of
Jesus, the Messiah. (Dan.9:25) During this
wait there would be a "fourth kingdom" (Rome)
that would arise. (Dan.7:7) This kingdom will
be "dreadful and terrible," as "strong as iron."
This was the ruling power when Jesus came.
synagogues came into being. The Septuagint,
the Books of the Apocrypha were written and
Herod rebuilt the JewsTemple.
5. Jesus came unto His own to confirm the Covenant that God made with their fathers, but
Israel cut Him off in the "midst of the week." (i.e. after 3 1/2 years)
6. When Jesus was "cut off" (crucified) He
caused the animal sacrifice and the
offerings to cease. (Dan.9:27, Heb.10:1-10)
Note: When Jesus was crucified, the "veil
of the Temple was rent (ripped) in twain from
top to bottom" confirming that God's presence
was nolonger there. God had moved out
never to return. (Matt.27:51, Acts.7:47-48,
1Peter.2:5-9)
7. Yet Israel continued to offer animal sacrifices
after Christ had shed His sinless blood. This
was an insult and "abomination" to God.
Therefore God made that "abomination" desolate. 70 A.D. God made this "abomination of
desolation" overpread until the consummation (i.e. the end)
8. Luke records that this "overspreading will last until "the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
(Luke.21:24) The apostle Paul writes, that this overpreading (blindness, hardness of heart) will
continue until the fullness ( or the full number of the Gentles be brought in. (Rom.11:25)
9. When the "full number of the Gentiles" are
come in then, the remainder of the
Covenant will be confirmed by Moses and
Elijah. (Representing the Law and the
Prophets)
10. After the remainder of the Covenant is
confirmed to Israel, then transgression will
end, sin will, (reconciliation for iniquity has
already been made at the Cross), everlasting
righteousness will be brought in, the vision
and prophecy complete, and the Most Holy
becomes anointed. (Dan.9:24)
Now the balance is seen why God is still in Covenant with the Jews because He is not finished confirming His promise that He made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This Covenant / Promise was the Messiah would come and redeem them.
This is not a separate plan and purpose for the Jews and one for the Gentile. No, God has ONE plan and ONE purpose, and that is His eternal Church. (Eph.3:1-12)

6. 1260 days is three and a half years. (Rev.11:3; 12:6, 14, Dan.7:25) 30 days to a month. (Rev.11:2; 13:5)
7. This "trodden under foot" is NOT the same as Rev.11:1-2, and Luke.21:24 for the following reasons. (a) The context of Dan.8:13 is clearly "the latter time of" Greece. (Dan.8:23) (b) The context of Luke.21:24 is the 70 A.D. destruction of Jerusalem. (c) There is no reinstatement of animal sacrifices anywhere in the Book of Revelation. (d) The Temple of Rev.11:"1-2 is MEASURED not destroyed, as Dan.8:13 says. (e) In Rev.11:2, the holy city is trodden under foot and the outer court. The Temple was not touched. Dan8:13 only the sanctuary is trodden under foot
