My name is Elton G. McMillan sr.
Born and raised in the South Island coastal town of Timaru
New Zealand, I gave my life to the Lord at the age of sixteen when an
American evangelist, A.S. Worley, came through holding meetings.
This was in 1960.
Two years later at a camp meeting I felt the Lord birth a specific
desire in me to teach the Word of God. This desire has never left me.
A year later two other young men and I traveled to the Chatham Islands
off the coast of New Zealand and worked for a year starting a church
which still remains.
The following four years I continued my O.J.T. (I.e. on the job training) in ministry, traveling throughout the U.S.A. and Australia as part of a gospel quartet called the “Firebrands”. The Lord was proving Himself more and more a “sure foundation” to me as Isa.28:16 says, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a sure foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation”.
1967- 75 were spent in Anchorage Alaska, working in advertising and art layout while attending Abbott Loop Chapel.
1976- 89 were spent attending Wichita Christian Center teaching in their local Bible College. There I was grateful to the Lord (and Pastor Tom Garrelts) to be given much freedom to study and teach the Word of God.
In 1989, with my wife (Mary) and our three children, I moved to Eugene, Oregon (U.S.A.) where we still live and I became a proud American citizen. All three children are now married and we have seven grandchildren, each who are living lives committed to the Lord. Our oldest son is a Pastor, and youngest son is presently earning his bachelors degree in the state of Texas. Our daughter is an RN just like her mother. We are very thankful that all three children have decided themselves to serve the Lord.
Psalm 37:4 says,
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart”.
There have been several men of God that have been excellent examples in Word and doctrine for the past forty seven years. My Pastor, David Jackson in New Zealand. Kevin J. Conner, Ray Jackson Sr., and Rob Wheeler. These men taught the rich Word of the Lord in our Church. They laid the foundation of the Old Testament scripture in my life. Eventually I came to Anchorage, Alaska and the Word of the Lord was added to by apostle Dick Benjamin, Jim Feeney and Dick Strutz (who made me realize the benefits of charts while teaching) Like Timothy "from a child (in my case 16 years old) I have had the honor and privilege (Prov.25:1-2) of knowing the holy scriptures, and because of these great men of God I have purposed to "deliver that which I have received"
(1 Cor.13:3) to faithful men, that they teach others also." (2 Tim.2:2)
During the "dark ages," John Wycliffe "...declared that the people had the right to read the Bible and interpret it for themselves." The same is true today, because this is a Godly principle foreshadowed by the Levitical priesthood. The "sons of Levi" (Deut.31:9-11) were given the responsibility to teach the Word, protect the Word, interpret the Word, to guard and protect when it was copied. (Deut.17:18; 24:8; 31:9-11 Today, as a "royal priesthood" (Kings and Priests
1Peter.2:5-9, Rev.1:6; 5:10) we have the same charge.
Therefore it is not a matter of "Oh I just can't understand the Bible," no it is your charge, your responsibility. It does not belong to the Theologian, Scholar or College Professor of Religious studies, NO the Word of God belongs to you!
