A overview of the day of atonement
The Day of Atonement was a day, when the high priest entered the Most Holy Place "once every year," (Heb 9:7-8) to make an atonement for all the sin (Lev.16:1-34) of the "church in the wilderness." (Acts.7:38, 1Cor.10:11, Rom.15:4) Review: Phase 4 for explanation of charts below

After Aaron made an atonement for himself, he was "to take a censer full of burning coals of fire from
off the (Brazen) altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within
the vail: And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover
the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:" (Lev 16:12-14)
.
Note: This is exactly what the angel did during the opening of the seventh seal. (Rev.8:1-3)
The Church in the wilderness gathered as "one man."
"And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem." (Ezra 3:1-2, Neh.8:1) This is why the "whole multitude of the people were praying without (Lev.16:17) at the time of incense" when Zacharias "executed the (high) priests office" " (Luke 1:10-11)
1. The New Testament reality (Fulfillment) is Eph.4:13
Till "we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a
perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." (Eph 4:13-14)
a. Jesus prayed "now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee.
Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may
be one, as we are." (John 17:11-12, 21-23)
b. The apostle Paul (Gal.1:11-12) wrote (2Tim.3:16) that the Church, (the Israel of God -
Gal.6:15-16) would become "a man." (1Cor.13:9-12, Eph.4:13) One man.
c. The Ephesians were told that the Church will be "one flesh" and compares her to the first
marriage of Adam and Eve (Eph.5:21-33) and interprets Christ to be "the last Adam"
(1Cor.15:45) and Eve to be the Church. (2Cor.11:1-3)
d. Today! We are to "keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Eph 4:3-4)
It is "endeavoring" (i.e. to an make effort) to keep the unity of the Spirit , (Eph 4:3-4)
that will bring us to "a perfect (mature, full grown) man, unto the measure of the stature
of the fullness of Christ." (Eph.4:13)

Note: Some say as Nicodemus did, "How can these things be?" (John.3:9) Noah
probably thought the same thing when he was told to build an Ark. (Gen.6:8-22) It made no
sense to the "natural mind" to build an Ark. No one had seen rain or a flood! (Gen.2:5-6,
2Peter.3:4-6) However, Noah submitted to God's purpose and built "according to all that God
commanded him." (Gen.6:22) The same should be true for us today! (Matt.24:37-38)
2. Review the "ensample"of Solomon's Temple
"Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in
the seventh month." (2 Chron 5:3-4) "It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers
were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they
lifted up their (one) voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised
the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then (as they were one)
the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; So that the priests could not stand
to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God."
(2 Chron 5:13-6:1, Psa.133:1-3)
Solomon's Temple foreshadows the last day Church. (Eph.2:20-22; 4:11-16; 5:21-33)
(Note: This chart below is the combination of Phase 2, 4 and 8, 9, 11)

Note: Some may wonder, why is the Church becoming a "perfect man," when the
Church is the Bride? The context of the "perfect man" is maturity or completeness, full mature
adults, because we are to measure up to the "measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ"
(Eph 4:13) The man Christ Jesus. (Phil.2:7) Eve was just like (1John.3:2, Gen.2:23, Eph.5:21-
33, 2Cor.11:1-3) Adam because she was taken from Adam. (1Cor.15:45) The Church the Bride
is made up of both male and female, yet we are all considered the Bride, the Woman, the female.
(Note: Gal.3:28)
As they gathered as one, they were cleansed of all sin
When the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in the cities, "the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem." (Ezra 3:1-2) The pattern was that the High Priest would "make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness."
(Lev 16:16-17) Today! There is sin in the Church! There is a mixed multitude! There is "leaven" in the Church that needs to be removed. (Review: The Feast of Pentecost)
1. Jesus said there would be "tares" in the Church
"Let both grow together (Deut.13:1-5) until the harvest: (the end of the world) and in the
time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in
bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." (Matt 13:30) This parable is a
kingdom of heaven / God parable, which is in us, the Church (Rom.14:17)
a. He "that soweth the good seed is the Son of man." (Matt 13:37)
b. The "good seed are the children of the kingdom." (Matt 13:38)
e. The "tares are the children of the wicked one." (Matt 13:38-39)
f. The "enemy that sowed them is the devil."
g. The "harvest is the end of the world." (The context is last days) Matt 13:29-3
h. Ephesian Church was told there are spots, wrinkles, and blemishes in the Church
that needed to be removed "by the washing of water by the Word." (Eph.5:26-27)
before she is presented as a Bride.
i. Jude said "there are certain men crept in...ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into
lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4-5) "Woe
unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for
reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. These are spots in your feasts of charity,
when they feast with you." (Jude 11-12)
j. Peter wrote,"there shall be false teachers among you." (2Peter.2:1) These are "Spots
and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with
you" (2Peter.2:13-14, Note: v.16 "wrest"- torture)
Note: Remember the "twinkling of an eye" does not remove these spots, wrinkles and
blemishes. (Review: Seven seal, Q.1. #6) Therefore between our present day and the
Marriage of Christ and His Church, there must a cleansing of the "Sanctuary." (The Church)
(Review: Dan.8:13-14, 26-27)
The key words are:
"Let them grow together until..."
(Matt.13:30) Note: Deut.13:1-5, Judges.2:1-3; 3:1-4)
2. There is coming a cleansing of the sanctuary, i.e.The Church. (1Peter.4:17)
Daniel prophesied "then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." (Dan.8:14) This was "the vision of
the evening and the morning" that Daniel was astonished at" and "none understood." Peter
wrote that "judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the
end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" (1 Peter.4:17-18)
a. To be a leader in the house of God, his household needs to be in order before he leads
in the Church. (1Tim.3:5) It is a pattern, a principle of how God works.
b. Paul said the Jews were causing God's "name to be blasphemed among the Gentiles"
(Rom.2:24) because they were making their "boast o the Law," but not living it. It must
begin "first at us." (1Peter.4:17-18)
Remember: The Church (Building, House, Temple, Sanctuary) is the people. (Matt.16:18,
John.2:18-20 / Acts.7:47-48, 1Cor.6:19, 1Tim.3:15)
3. Some may say,"I thought the blood of Christ our Passover cleansed me from all sin?"
Yes it did! However, after we are saved (Born again / Redeemed) there is provision for "if" we
sin, because God knew we would. John wrote, "My little children, these things write I unto you,
that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous" (1John.2:1-2) It is "if" we sin, not when because "sin shall not have dominion over
you..." (Rom 6:14) The fact is, we do sin because we yield (Rom.6:1-11) to the "leaven" in our
lives. (Review: The Feast of Pentecost)
Note: "If" we sin, we do not need to be saved again, however we do need to ask for
forgiveness and "He is faithful and just to forgive or sins." (1John.1:9)
This is why the reality of "the day" of atonement is needed
The day (Heb.11:25) of atonement is needed in the Church for her to be presented as
a "chaste (clean, i.e. (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect)1 virgin to Christ." (2Cor.11:1-3,
Eph.5:21-33) Remember, Christ cannot marry a Church / Bride with sin, because He would
be "unequally yoked." (2Cor.6:14-18) Some are expecting the "twinkling of an eye" to
remove sin. (1Cor.15:51-52) It does not. (Review: Q.1, Page.4.#6)

The day of Atonement was on the 10th. day
On "the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.
And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God." (Lev 23:27-29)
1. What is the significance of the number ten?
This number not a "idle word."2 i.e. useless (Matt.12:36) This number ten was inspired by God
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"
(2Peter.1:21, 2Tim.3:6-17) The number "10" carries the thought of proving, testing, and order.
a. Abraham was tested 10 years before he gave into Hagar. (Gen.16:3)
b. Israel was tempted 10 times in the wilderness. (Num.14:22)
c. Ruth had 10 years of proving before she moved. (Ruth.1:4)
d. Nehemiah's enemies tried to discover him 10 times. (Neh.4:12)
e. Daniel went 10 days to prove himself. (Dan.1:12)
f. The Church of Smyrna had tribulation 10 days. (Rev.2:10)

2. The Spirit of God does test (prove) you
Beloved, "think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some
strange thing happened unto you." (1Peter.4:12-13)
a. Peter pulls together the thought of "fiery trials" and "judgment" in the House of God.
(This is the day of atonement) 1Peter.4:12-17
b. The Church at Laodicea was challenged to buy "gold tried in the fire." (Rev.3:18) Peter
identified this as "the trial of of your faith." (1Peter.1:6-7) They had replaced "trials" with
prosperity. (Rev.3:17)
update Note: God does want us to prosper, (Deut.8:18; 29:9, 3John.1:20) however
many have over emphasised this truth where it excludes testings and trials. The prosperity
doctrine has become a blemish of a "superfluous thing." Look at ther "Blueprint."

There are many in the Church world today who are like "Laodieca" and think their prosperity is "Godliness"
(1Tim.6:5-7) and will refuse this messege of death to self, being totality consumed by God's Spirit and
letting go of all "weight and sin which doth easily beset us, and...run with patience the race that is set before
us." (Heb.12:1)
3. Some think that God does not test or prove us.
God does prove us. "Then said the Lord unto Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for
you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them,
whether they will walk in my law, or no." (Exod.16:4-5) "and to know what was in thine
heart." (Deut. 8:2-3)
a. If there arise among you a prophet...and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the
wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods...Thou
shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet...for the Lord your God proveth you, to
know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul."
(Deut 13:1-4)
b. God said, "I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which
Joshua left when he died: That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep
the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not." (Jud.2:21-22)
c. There is time coming when every "man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall
declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; (Jer.23:29, Psa.105:19) and the fire
shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built
thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss:
but he himself shall be saved." yet so as by fire." (1Cor.3:13-16)
Think of Lot (Gen.12:1; 13:1-14) in comparison to Noah. (Gen.6:7-22, Heb.11:7,
Matt.24:36-38) The "fire" revealed what Lot had built (1Cor.3:13-16) for himself in
Sodom.
Two goats taken on the day of atonement
Aaron "shall take the
two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness." (Lev 16:7-11)
1. These two goats were indentical (same, indistinguishable, equal, like)
a. Because Aaron had to cast lots to see which one would be for the Lord. (Lev.16:9)
b. The high standards that God required for an offering demanded that these goats be
indistinguishable. (Mal.1:6-10, Lev.22:21-23
2. The Lord's goat is Jesus
The writer of Hebrews says, Jesus is the fulfillment (reality Mat.5:17-19, Heb.9:1-26; 10:1-10)
of the Old Testament bulls and goats. Now it is "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but
by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption
for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean,
sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through
the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works
to serve the living God? (Heb 9:12-14)
a. It was the shed blood of the Lord's goat that purified "the uncleanness of the children of
Israel...because of their transgressions in all their sins." (Lev 16:16)
Examples of Sin and transgression in the Church

b. It was the shed blood of the Lord's goat that purified the tabernacle of the congregation,
that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness. (Lev 16:16)

3. After Aaron takes in the atoning blood of the Lord's goat
The "scapegoat" is taken after Aaron had "made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the
tabernacle of the congregation, (the Sanctuary) and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: (the
scapegoat) And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over
him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting
them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the
wilderness." (Lev 16:20-22)
a. The Scapegoat is the Church, The Bride
Only the Church has been called to just like Him. (1John.3:2, Rom.8:29, 2Cor.3:18,
Eph.4:11-16)
b. The "scapegoat" did not make atonement for sin, (did not shed blood) but
was part of the ministry of reconciliation. (Note: 2Cor.5:19) Paul says, "as though God
did beseech you by us." (2Cor.5:20) Jesus said, "Whose soever sins ye remit, they are
remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."4 (John 20:23-24)
