Are there apostles and prophets today?
Yes! Jesus never stopped giving these gifts to men

Jesus ascended He gave gifts unto men. (Eph.4:8) "
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)...And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers." (Eph.4:11)

(For explanation of the chart review, Phase. 3 and Phase 9)

1.  Jesus has not changed His mind! (Review: Feast of Pentecost)
"Wherefore he saith, When He (Jesus - who is "the same yesterday, and today." Heb.13:8
ascended up on high, He (Jesus) led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men," (Eph 4:8-9)
Today, He (Jesus) is still giving gifts unto men" because He is the same! The apostle Paul
declared, that these apostles, prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers will continue "till we
all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto
the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:" (Eph.4:13) This has not happened yet!
Therefore these gifts are still required in the Church TODAY!
     a.  What is the unity of the faith?
This is marriage language! Paul wrote concerning Christ and His Church, "and they two shall
          be one flesh.
(Eph.5:21-33)
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the
          church."
(Eph.5:31)
          (1)
This is the language of "the day" of atonement
This "the day" (once a year) when Israel "gathered themselves as one man to Jerusalem"
(Ezra 3:1, Neh.8:1) in the feast that was in the seventh month. At the center of this month
                 was "t
he day" (Heb.10:25) of atonement which foreshadows the final preparation of the
Bride (the Church) before she is married. (Review: Conclusion)

"...and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ
                 and the church." (Eph.5:31-32)

          (2)  Jesus prayed, "that they all might be one"
This was not just for the disciples but all those that believe through their word. (That is us,
the Church today!) Think about it! Jesus has prayed for you. This will happen! The only
question is will you allow yourself to be part of it?" (Note: "for the marriage of the Lamb
is come and his wife hath made herself ready." (Rev.19:7)  (Review: Conclusion)
     b.  What is the knowledge of the Son of God?
          Paul writes, "
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether
there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
          (1)  Our knowledge is in part
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But
when that which is perfect is come. (1Cor.13:9-12)
This when the Church comes to a perfect man.
                 (Eph.4:11-16)
Then that which is in part (knowledge,
prophecy, tongues) shall be done away.
          (2)  There is a perfect to come
                 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood
as a child, I thought as a child. At this present time
                 we are a child. But when I became a man, (i.e. a
                 perfect man
Eph.4:11-16, Heb.5:11-14, 1Cor.13:9-
                 12)
I put away childish things. (i.e. knowing in part,
                 prophecy, tongues)
          (3)  As of today
For now (today) we see through a glass, (The Word
                 of God - James.1:22-25, 2Cor.3:18) darkly; (as a
child, knowing in part) but then face to face:
(marriage language) now I know in part; but then
shall I know even as also I am known."
(consummation of the marriage of Christ and His
                 Church. Note: Gen.4:1) (1Cor.13:8-12)

     c.  What is a Perfect man?
This is the Bride. The reason is because Jesus cannot
marry anyone less than Himself or else He would
unequally yoked. (2Cor.6:14-18) This is why the Church
(The Bride) will be "a glorious church, not having spot, or
wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and
          without blemish."
(Eph.5:27, 1Peter.1:18-20)
     d.  What is the measure of the stature of Christ?
Christ is the measuring stick. The "reed," the "rod"
          (Rev.11:1-2, Eph.4:11-16)
that the Church MUST
measure up to. Paul told the Corinthians "For we dare not
make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves
with some that commend themselves...they measuring
          themselves by themselves,and comparing themselves
among themselves, are not wise." (2Cor.10:12, Note:
          Matt.25:1-13)

2.  Twinkling of an eye
Some say this will NEVER happen until we are caught up to meet Jesus when He returns
     (1Cor.15:51-52)
in a "twinkling of an eye." If this is true then why would God give the apostle,
prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher this charge? God is not double minded.
(James.1:17,
     Mal.3:6)

(Click here for explanation of the 3rd., 4th., 5th., 6th., and 7th. days)

An overview since the 1st. Century until our present day,

After the death of the apostle John, man stopped these gifts of the apostle and prophet. Not God! By the beginning of the second century, the Church began to decay and decline towards the "dark ages." (5th - 15th. Cent.) From the Reformation (1517 AD.) until now the Spirit of God has been restoring the Church back to where they failed and declined.

1.  Our present day
This restoration has seen the Pastor, Evangelist, and Teacher placed back into the Church. At
present (the last 60 years) the Apostle and Prophet are presently being restored and received
in the leading edge of the Church. (some still refused these ministries) Note: 60 years would
seem to be a long time. It is actual only 1½ hours before the Lord. (2Peter.3:8-9, Psa.90:4) Don't
be like the "scoffers" of Peter's day and think that God plan revolves around you and your time
     reference.
     a.  The apostle and prophet are being restored because...
The Church has not yet come to "the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of
God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ"
           (Eph 4:13-14)
           (1)  This will happen regardless of what man believes because Jesus prayed it would
                  happen. (John.17:21-23)
           (2)  In order for this to happen the apostle and prophet must function in the Church with the
                  evangelist, pastor and teacher.

b.  This is because God is a finisher! (Luke.14:25-33)
Without the apostle and prophet, there cannot be a "glorious church, not having spot, or
wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." (Eph.5:27)
A Church just like Jesus! (1Peter.1:18-20, 1John.3:2) This is why the Church that has
come to the a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ" (Eph 4:13-           14) Without this, there can be no marriage! This is why we still need
the Apostle, Prophet,
           Evangelist, pastor and teacher!

     c.
The issue is "not when is this going to happen, it is where?"(Review: The Conclusion)
          (1)  This study is saying, this will happen here on this earth before the Second Coming.
because the Church will be presented "a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
                 or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." (Eph.5:27;
Just like Jesus! (Eph.4:8-16) Meaning she has already become a "perfect" Church
                 before being "presented" to Jesus.
(Review: All 12 Phases)

Note: Eve was completed before she was presented to Adam. (Gen.2:18-25) Jesus is
called, "the last Adam" (1Cor.15:45) and Eve is compared to the Church. (2Cor.11:1-3)

          (2)  Some say this will happen in the "twinkling of an eye" (1Cor.15:51-52, 1Thes.4:13-18)
at the Pre-Tribulation Rapture. The cannot be because the context of the "twinkling of an
eye" is our mortal bodies changing to immortality, it has nothing to do with our being
                 made "a perfect man."

(Review: Phase.10 full explanation of chart below)
               .

2.  There were tares amongst the wheat in the 1st. Century and our present day
     a.  Unfortunately there the tares (counterfeit Apostles 2Cor.11:13 and Prophets - 2Peter.2:1-2
amongst the wheat (The Church) (Matt.13:24-30, 36-43. Note: Deut.13:1-5)
          (1)  The antichrist will be a fallen, apostate apostle, counterfeiting the ministry of the true
apostles that will bring the Church to the "mark" of the prize of the high calling. (The Bride
of Christ) These false apostles will bring those that do not have a love for the truth, to the
false "mark" of the beast. (antichrist) (Review: Eschatology Two, Phase.12, Page.4)
          (2)  There is also a false prophet because he is copying the true ministries of the apostles
and prophets in the last day Church. Together this false apostle and prophet will lay a
false foundation of the antichrist, counterfeiting the true. (1Cor.3:10-15)
     b.
Then there are the "Ishmael's" (those that presume to be Apostles and Prophets) before
the "Isaac's." (i.e. Those that allow God to prompt and anointing them into service)
          (Gen.16:1-6; 17:9-27, 1Peter.3:6)

What is an "apostle?"

1.  First, he is servant, a steward like all five Eph,4:11 ministries

Jesus "called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise
dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
But it shall not be so
     among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
And whosoever will
be chief among you, let him be your servant." (Matt.20:25-27, Note: 1Cor.3:1010, 2Cor.1:24)
     a.  Why then has God set "first apostles..."
God "hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after
that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. " (1Cor.12:28)
They are first because of their responsibility / accountability for the foundation. The foundation
is always first and so are the workers responsible for it.(1Kings.5:17, 2Chron.8:16, Ezra.3:6-
          13, 1Cor.3:10-15)
bIn the kingdom of God, more responsibility does not mean more important
          (1)  The apostle has the responsibility to laid the foundation correctly. (Eph.2:20-22,1Cor.3:10)
" If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psa.11:3)
          (2)  The parable of the talents.
(Matt.25:24-30, 36-43) The one that was given five and the
one that was given two were both given the same reward. (I believe the one talent man
would have given the same reward as the five and two, if he had used it) There is no
respecter of persons in the kingdom of God. (Acts.10:34)
          (3)  James writes, "My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the
greater condemnation." (James.3:1, Matt.20:20-22) A greater accountability upon
                 teachers / masters.
          (4)  Paul said himself," But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any
means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1Cor.9:27)
Think of Moses, who had the accountability to lead Israel out of Egypt towards the Land
promised to Abraham. He failed to enter into the land because he failed in his
                 accountability.
(Num.20:1-13)  More responsibility, accountability, does not mean
                 more important!

2.  The apostle is a "wise master builder." (1Cor.3:10)
The word "masterbuilder" is a chief constructor, architect. (a person who designs buildings and
advises in their construction. A person who designs and guides a plan or undertaking. Someone
who understands what the building should look like. As a "wise masterbuilder" Paul knew what
the finished building looked like and what kind of of foundation (1Cor.3:10-11) was needed.
      a.  Moses and Paul
           (1)  Both were apostles. Moses the type,(Heb.3:1-6) Paul the reality.(Rom.1:1)
                  (a)  Moses had
Aaron who was a prophet.(Exod.7:1)
                  (b)
Paul had prophets travel with him. (Acts.13:1-3; 15:32)

(c)  The apostle and prophet together are responsible for the foundation. (Eph.2:20)
           (2)  Both were educated in the things of this world and rejected it.
                  (a)  Moses rejected it. He "e
steeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the
treasures in Egypt: (typifying this world) for he had respect unto the recompence of
                         the reward."
(Acts.7:22,
Heb.11:26-27)

(b)  Paul rejected it and called it "dung." (Phil.3:1-8)
           (3)  Both had a miraculus calling. (Exod.3:1-22, Acts.9:1-20)
           (4)  Both spent time in the desert to remove their natural / earthly  wisdom. (Exod.2:15-22,
                  Gal.1:17, Phil.3:8)
           (5)  Both had their speaking ability erased. (Exod.4:1-10 / Acts.7:22, 1Cor.2:1-4)
           (6)  Moses recieved the blueprint, Paul (the Architect) interpreted the blueprint.
                  (a)  Moses wrote down the journey of Israel. (Deut.31:9-11)
                  (b)
Paul writes, "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: (types,
models, sketchy outline, blueprint) and they are written for our admonition, upon
whom the ends of the world are come.
(1Cor.10:11) Paul also reads the blueprint of
                         the Tabernacle of Moses, (Heb.8:1-5) The function of the High Priest. (Heb.2:17;
                         3:1; 4:14-16;6:20; 7:1-28; 8:1-5; 9:1-26; 10:1-10)
      b.  The apostle Peter
Peter, the apostle and "wise masterbuilder" interprets the blueprint of the Priesthood.
           (Exodus, Leviticus, 1Peter.2:5-9)

3.  An apostle does not exercise dominion over the Church
Paul writes, "Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by
faith ye stand." (2.Cor.1:24) He is not on the top. He is underneath in the muck and grind laying
the foundation. He serves the people, not the people serving him. (2Cor.1:24, Matt.20:20-28
     Not like the Gentiles
)
He is the least. (1Cor.15:9) yet the first (1Cor.12:28) because he is laying
     the foundation first.(1Cor.3:10 -15, Eph.2:20-22)

4.  Look at the apostle Paul's life style. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     a.  In labors more abundant. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     b.  In stripes above measure. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     c.  In prisons more frequent. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     d.  In deaths oft. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     e.  Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     f.   Thrice was I beaten with rods. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     g.  Once was I stoned. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     h.  Thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep. (2Cor.11:23-29)
     i.   In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen,
in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in
          perils among false brethren;
In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. (2Cor.11:23-29)
      j.  Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the
          churches.
(
2Cor.11:23-29)

5.  The apostle is responsible for the direction of the Church.

Now "therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and
     of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus
     Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God
     through the Spirit.
(Eph.2:19-22, 1Cor.3:10-11)
     a.
Foundation / direction at Pentecost
On the day of Pentecost, it was the apostle Peter that stood up with the Word of the
          prophet
Joel and laid the foundation (i.e. gave direction
Eph.2:20-22, 2Peter.3:1-2) to the
1st. century Church. (Acts.2:17, Joel.2:28-32) The Bible says. "they continued steadfastly in
the apostles doctrine..." (Acts.2:42) The apostles direction / foundation. (Eph.2:20-22,
          1Cor.3:10-11)

     b.
Fifty years later at Jerusalem
Fifty years later direction / foundation needed to be set once again in the church, and once
again direction / foundation was set by the apostle James using the Word of the
prophet
          Amos. (Acts.15:1-16, Amos.9:11-12)

c.  Peter reminded the Church
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy
prophets, and of
the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:"
(2Peter.3:2)

6.  Signs, wonders and might deeds follow the apostle. (2Cor.12:12)
They "continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread,
     and in prayers.
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the
     apostles. (Acts 2:42-43; 5:12; 14:3)
     a.  Apostle Peter and John (Acts.3:1-10; 4:16, Mark.16:9-20)
     b.  Apostle Paul
(Acts.14:8-18; 20:7-12; 28:1-6, Rom.15:9)

c.  Sign, wonders and might deeds are still happening today. They did not stop after the death of
the last apostle John. (Heb.13:8 Review: Phase.9)

7.  Not all the apostles wrote scripture.
Some misunderstand and think that we are saying that their is more scripture being written
by apostles today. There is no scripture being written today!
     a.  Paul, Peter, John, James wrote scripture
     b.  Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Simon, Mathias were apostles and they did
          not write scripture.
Therefore, writing scripture cannot used as a qualification for a apostle
     c.  Luke was not listed as an apostle and he wrote Luke and the Book of Acts.

(Luke.1:1-4, Acts.1:1)
     d.  Jude was not listed as an apostle and he wrote the book of Jude (Jude).

8.  Not all the apostles saw Jesus.
(1Cor.9:1)
     Paul said, "
Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
are not ye my work in the Lord?
(1Cor.9:1-2) However, Epaphroditus, Titus, Timothy and
Silvanus had not seen the Lord and they were apostles. (1Thes.1:1; 2:1-20)
Note the words,
     "we" and "our."

9.
The apostle is a pioneer, breaker of new ground, starting new Churches
      Paul said, "
Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
are not ye my work in the Lord?
(1Cor.9:1-2)
Paul began the Church at Corinth. It was his work in
     the Lord.
An apostle is "one that was sent." (Grk. "apostle")

What is a Prophet?

The New and Old Testament Prophets are inspired by God to prophesy within the boundaries of
His established written Word. When Elijah prayed that it rain not (1Kings.17:1-7, James.5:17) this was in accordance with God's written word. (Lev.26:3-4, Deut.11:14-17) It was not something out of Elijah's imagination.

1.  The Old Testament Prophet gave God's direction / will
     a.  In the Old Testament they were not born again by the Spirit of God. Therefore Israel took
their direction from the Old Testament Prophet.
     b.  The Old Testament Prophets were. Abraham (Gen.20:7) Moses,(Deut.18:5, Acts.3:22)
          Aaron,(Exod.7:1) Samuel (1Sam.3:20) Nathan (1Chron.17:1) David (Acts.2:30)
All the Major
          and Minor Prophets

2.  The New Testament Prophet is a confirming Word

In the New Testament we are born again by the Spirit of God and have the ability to hear God's
voice for ourselves. Moses said, "would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that
the Lord would put his spirit upon them!" (Num.11:29, Note: 1Cor.12:10 29;14:31) Jesus said,
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." (John.10:27) Therefore the New
Testament Prophet confirms the direction / Word that Jesus has already given. One example is
the sending out of Paul and Silas. "As they (the Prophets and Teachers v.1) ministered to the
Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost
said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto
     I have (confirmation) called them
.
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands
on them, they sent them away."
(Acts.13:2-3)

Why does Jesus still appoint apostles and prophets?

Simply because the original Apostles and Prophets died, and these ministries are still needed to finish building the Church. (Eph.2:20-22, 1Peter.2:5) Jesus said, "I will build my Church.." with the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher, (Matt.16:18, Eph.4:1-16) and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

How does Jesus appoint apostles and prophets today?

The same way He appointed (ordain and place) the first twelve apostles because, " Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Heb.13:8, Mal.3:6, James.1:17) Jesus is still in charge! He is the head of the Church! (Eph.1:22-23, Col.1:18) He is still appointing apostles today! Why then did the the apostle and prophet ministry disappear after the death of the apostle John? The answer: It was m
an made himself head of the Church and eliminated the apostle and prophet. Jesus never changed!  (Review: Samson and the 1st Century Church)

1.  Today, Jesus appoint through the guidance of the Holy Spirit
Jesus said, after my resurrection (John.7:38-39, Acts.2:1)"He (the Holy Spirit) will take of mine
(how I selected Apostles) and shew it unto you. (John.16:13-15) "
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
     truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: (about apostles) for he shall not speak of himself;
but whatsoever he shall hear, (about apostles) that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to
     come.
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
All things that
the Father hath are mine:therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you."
     (
John.16:13-15)

aThis will be evident by the
"fruit" in the saints lives that have called to be apostles
Jesus said, "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of
          thistles?
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil
          fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit...

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matt.7:16-20) If there is no fruit, there is no
calling. The fruit clearly states what the root is. "
For the invisible things of him from the creation
of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal
          power and Godhead." (
Rom 1:20)

     b.  What is the "fruit" (evidence) of an apostle?

The apostle Paul says, "Truly the signs of an apostle
          were wrought among you.
          (1)  In all patience (2Cor.12:12)
          (2)  In signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds."

          (3).
Am "I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen
Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord.

If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am
to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in
                 the Lord." (
1Cor.9:1-2)

    c.
The 1st Century Church forsook the guiding of the
         Holy Spirit by 100 AD.
L
ike Samson they failed to have a
hearing ear but "turned aside to see the carcase (or the
         dead works Heb.6:1, Eph.2:1, Matt.23:27) of (our
         adversary
 1Peter.5:8) the defeated lion (Col.2:15
(Judges.14:5-8) They gave place to mans government
and refused the apostolic and prophetic government.

Some in the Church still refuse these valuable ministries.  (Review: Phase 2)

2.  Today Jesus still finds them because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Jesus saw Simon, Andrew, James and John. They were not looking for Jesus. He found them!
"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the
behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him." (2Chron.16:9, 1Peter.3:12)
     a.  Remember, the reasons Jesus is still finding them today
          (1)  Because the apostle and prophet are still needed as well as the evangelist, pastor and
teacher to finish building the Church that Jesus "began to" (Acts.1:1) build.
(Matt.16:18,
                 Note: Eph.2:20-22; 4:1-16, Gal.1:11-12)
          (2)  Because the first apostles and prophets physically died, new apostles and prophets
needed to be appointed / ordained / set in because the Church needs to be perfected
(matured) The gift did not stop, only the mortal bodies of the first apostles stopped.

     b.  How does Jesus find them?
It is through the Holy Spirit of God.(1Cor.12:18-19) Jesus
said, after my resurrection (John.7:38-39, Acts.2:1) "He
(the Holy Spirit) will take of mine (how I selected Apostles)
and shew it unto you. (John.16:13-15)
          (1)  A key thought: "as it hath please Him." (1Cor.12:18-19)
          (2)  Note: Jesus is clearly the head of the Church. He has
                 not asked anyones permission yet!
          (3)  The Scribes, Pharisees and Saduchees would have
never picked Peter, James and John. The same is
true in the Church world today.

c
Watch for those that promote themselves
Note the sons of Zebedee's mother wanted to promote her
          sons.
(Matt.20:20-27)
W
hen the ten heard it, they were
moved with indignation against the two brethren.
But Jesus
called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of
the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are
          great exercise authority upon them.
But it shall not be so
          among you:
but whosoever will be great among you, let him
          be your minister;
And whosoever will be chief among you
let him be your servant." (
Matt.20:24-28)
          (1)  Paul warned the Corinthian Church (2Cor.11:13)
          (2)  They were measuring themselves by themselves.

                 (2Cor.10:12)

3.  Today Jesus is still saying, "Come follow me."
Jesus was "walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren,
Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
And
he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
And they straightway left their
     nets, and followed him.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of
Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he
     called them.
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him." (Matt.4:18-22)
     a.  They followed Jesus

This is important because in these last, of the last days, there will be counterfeit (false)
apostles and prophets. The spirit of antichrist is now recruiting (1John.4:1-4, 2Thes.2:7)
his counterfeit apostles and prophets to follow him. This is the test of a true or false apostle
           (1)  Is Jesus preeminent?
Paul wrote, "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto
you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
(i.e. lifestyle, fruit) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."(Heb 13:7-
8, 1Cor.11:3-4) How is the lifestyle of those that call themselves apostles?

           (2)  Are they following Christ?
Paul writes, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ."
He was saying let my
example cause you to follow Christ  (Col.1:18) with me because "
the head of every man
(apostle) is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is
                  God."(1Cor.11:1-3)
The true apostle today will cause you serve the Lord Jesus Christ,
                  not him.
(Note: 1Cor.3:1-9)

                  (a)  Follow Christ is doing the same things He does.

Jesus, is "the Word made flesh." (John.1:1-14)
Jesus said, "Think not that I am come
to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." (Matt.5:17,
Rom.8:1-4) Therefore the example of a true
apostle or prophet will never destroy the
law and the prophets. (Note: Luke.24:44-45) This is why the apostle Paul wrote that
the "things (that) happened unto them (Israel) for ensamples: and they are written for
our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." (1Cor.10:11, Rom.15:4)
                  (b)  Following the spirit of antichrist is doing the same things as he does
Once again, it the the fruit the reveals what the example is. (1John.4:1-4,
                         Matt.7:15-20)

4.   Jesus did not call them for the natural abilities. It is the same today
Now about the midst of the feast Jesus (who is "our Apostle"- Heb.3:1) went up into the temple,
       and taught.
And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never
       learned?
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any
man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of
       myself.
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent
him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him." (John.7:14-18)

    a.  No intellectuals, theologians, professors of Religion
            (1)  No Scribes.
In "New Testament times the scribes belonged to the sect of the Pharisees, who
supplemented the ancient written law by their traditions (Matt 23), thereby obscuring it
and rendering it of none effect.1  (Matt.15:6) Jesus did not call any scribes
            (2)
No Pharisees.
In "the time of our Lord they were the popular party (John 7:48). They were extremely
                   accurate and minute in all matters appertaining to the law of Moses (Matt 9:14; 23:15;
                   Luke 11:39; 18:12).
Denominations (religion) today. Paul, when brought before the
council of Jerusalem, professed himself a Pharisee (Acts 23:6-8; 26:4,5)1
(However, he considered it to be "dung."- Phil.3:1-8)
            (3)  No Sadducees

The "origin of this Jewish sect cannot definitely be traced. It was probably the outcome
of the influence of Grecian customs and philosophy during the period of Greek
domination.1 This would similar to our higher religious eduction. (Seminary, College
                   professors of religion etc.)
      b.  It was fishermen
Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew
his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.(Matt 4:18) After Jesus had
           resurrected "
when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were
unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had
           been with Jesus." (Acts.4:13)
      d.  It was a Publican (Tax collector)
In "New Testament times these taxes were paid to the Romans, and hence were regarded by
the Jews as a very heavy burden, and hence also the collectors of taxes, who were frequently
Jews, were hated, and were usually spoken of in very opprobrious terms. Jesus was accused
of being a "friend of publicans and sinners" (Luke 7:34)(from Easton's Bible Dictionary, PC Study Bible formatted electronic database
Copyright © 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

      e.  Even a Canaanite

The Canaanite was certainly no favorite son, especially when considering their History
       f.  One of them was a thief and a betrayer
Judas "Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
Why was not this ointment sold for
three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but
because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein." (John.12:4-6)

Note: Nothing mentioned concerning Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Lebbaeus,
Thaddaeus, Simon the Canaanite and Judas.

5.  After Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected
     a.  He selected Saul, a murderer of the saints
          (1)  Jesus choose (Acts.9:1-6,15) Saul (who's name was changed to Paul Acts.13:9) and
sent to a "street which is called Straight." (Acts.9:11) without asking the permission of
the Church at Jerusalem because they were not the head of the Church, Jesus was. They
would have never selected Saul / Paul. Neither would the Church today! (Acts.9:15)
          (2)  Then Jesus said to Ananias in a vision to go pray for Saul / Paul. (Note: Giving more
directions because Jesus is the head)

Jesus, told Ananias, go "and inquire in the house
of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth." Once again, Jesus did
not consult with the Church at Jerusalem before sending Ananias to Saul. (Note: The
trouble Peter was in with the Church at Jerusalem because he went to the house of
                 Cornielus. (Acts.10:1-48; 11:1-3)
          (3)  There needs to be some "Barnabas'" to accept the Saul's of today.
          (4)  Saul / Paul selection was outside of the Church at Jerusalem.

Note: It was at the Church at Jerusalem that Peter and the other apostles tried (with
scripture) to replace Judas. However, Jesus over ruled and put Paul in the apostolic
                 position. (Acts.1:15-26, Psa.69:25; 109:8)

     b.  The Holy Ghost said, (Acts.13:2; 1:16, John.16:12-15) "Separate me Barnabas and Paul
for the where I HAVE ( confirmation) called them." (Note: 1Tim.1:18; 2Tim.1:6)
           (1)  It was "as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said..." (Acts.13:2,
                  John.16:12-15)
Jesus was still in charge because He is the head of the Church.
This was not planned by the prophets and teachers.
           (2)  It was the Holy Ghost that selected Barnabas and Saul, not his education, he degrees, or
his accomplishments. (Remember, called these things "dung." (Phil.3:1-15)
           (3)  The  Jews marveled, (at Jesus) saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never
                  learned? (John 7:15, 1Cor.1:20-29; 2:1-14) Note: Acts.4:13
     c.  Others that were "sent" (John.13:16)
          (1)  Epaphroditus was a "messenger" (apostle) Phil.2:25.
          (2)  Titus was a "messenger" (apostle) 2Cor.8:23.
          (3) Timothy and Silvanus were an "apostles." 1Thes.1:1; 2:1-6.

Note:  The Greek word for "apostle" has been translated 78 times "apostles."
1 time as messenger. 1 time as " he that is sent." (Youngs concordance)

6.  There was no announcement that now these men are apostles
"Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work of the ministry..." (Acts.13:2) The verse does not
read, "separate me Barnabas and Saul to be apostles."

7.   It is a calling which requires hearing ear and the laying on of hands
      "
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and
Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid
their hands on them, they sent them away." (
Acts.13:2-4)
      a.  There needs to be hearing ear. "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto
           the churches." (Rev 2:7, Matt.13:13-15, Heb.5:11)
      b.  There is the doctrine of "laying on of hands." (Heb.6:1-3, 2Tim.1:6, Acts.8:17-19; 19:6)

8.  The proof of the calling is in the fruit of the ministry
"Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A
good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree
that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye
      shall know them." (Matt.7:17-20)

Conclusion:

Apostles today will not be sanctioned by a certain commitee or group, or fellowship of Churches. They will be called by Jesus the head of the Church. Then the accountability is on the Local Church to "prove all things," and to recieve (1Cor.9:1-2) the ministry apostle and the prophet. Remember, Jesus commended the Church at Ephesus for diligence in proving ministry. Jesus said, "I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars." (Rev.2:2)

There is no earthly headquarters to send out an email to say who is an apostle and who is not, because the head is quartered at the right hand of God the Father. (Eph.1:22-23)

Today w
e are like Jesse and his oldest sons. (1Sam.16:1-18) We look to men that are seasoned veterans, have started many Churches, and have proven ministry. (Compare: 1Sam.17:28-33)Those that have put in their time as a pastor and built a large assembly. Someone that has been recommended by our Churches to be apostles and prophets. However, the Holy Spirit has His "Davids" (1Sam.16:1-13; 17:34-54)

In other words, appointing apostles and prophets is completely out of hands! Jesus is stiil the head of the Church and He will do the appointing.

There will be false apostle and prophets in the last day!

Remember, Lucifer said, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." (Isa.14:13-14, 2Thes.2:1-4) Lucifer already had his false apostles and prophets in the first Century, it should be no strange thing that he will have them in his counterfeit of the last day apostate Church. (He wants the false apostle and prophet to lay the foundation for his counterfeit bride.)

Note: Most accept that the antichrist can have his false prophet, (Rev.16:13; 19:20) yet they
say that Christ cannot. Why would the antichrist copy (Isa.14:11-14, 2Thes.2:4, 1Peter.5:8) the prophetic ministry that God is not giving anymore? Doesn't Lucifer want to be "like the Most High?" (Isa.14:14) In order the deceive, Satan must look like the real thing.

1.  True Prophets silenced in Babylon
     I
n "her (Mystery Babylon, the Mother of Harlots) was found the blood of prophets, and of saints,
     (Rev.16:6; 18:20)
and of all that were slain upon the earth." (Rev.18:24) This is future event.
(Last days - She is riding on the beast / antichrist)
Review: Phase.10

2.  Counterfeit
A confirmation of this is the fact that the antichrist counterfeits these two ministries because
cannot deceive and shew himself that he is God if he does not have his false apostles and
prophets! Remember, he wants to be like the Most High, and the Most High has apostles and
     prophets.

3.  There will be false Christ's / A false  Messiah / A false anointing
Jesus said, "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; (anointing, Messiah) and
shall deceive many" because they don't have a love for the truth.(2Thes.2:10)
